The 2024-25 NCAA D1 wrestling season's penultimate week wraps up with a big-time Big Ten dual, which also happens to be the subject of this preview article!

The 2024-25 NCAA D1 wrestling season is racing toward it's conclusion, but there are still some marquee duals left on the schedule. For example, the dual we're previewing right now!

Dual meet season continues to roll along as we look back at another week of results and catalog all the upsets based on rankings that we could find. All the usual caveats apply. Results that technically qualify as upsets this week may not look like upsets at the end of the season or even a week from now.

The undefeated #1 ranked Nittany Lions of Penn State are in Jersey to wrestle the #14 Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Penn State will be very large favorites, as they will be all year in all their dual meets and in the NCAA Championships in the team title race.

Luke Lilledahl knew this would be his toughest match to date. He also knew he was up for anything Nebraska’s Caleb Smith would throw his way.

As we get deeper into the 2024-25 NCAA D1 wrestling season, upsets become more consequential for ranking, seeding, and NCAA Championship qualifications purposes.

This season's Penn State Nittany Lion wrestling program is doing its best not to be eclipsed by last season's record-smashing national championship squad. The program is 7-0 in dual meets and won the team trophy at the Black Knight Invitational back in November. The Lions travel to Nebraska for a Friday night dual that will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.

Several tournaments helped stir the chaos in week 4 of the 2024-25 NCAA D1 wrestling season that saw nearly 50 upsets take place!

Half the men's freestyle squad at the 2024 U20 World Championships are affiliated with the Penn State wrestling program. One redshirt freshman (Josh Barr), three incoming freshmen (Luke Lilledahl, Zack Ryder, and Connor Mirasola) and one high school senior commit (PJ Duke) will be going for gold in Pontevedra, Spain.

The 2024 U20 World Championships are going down in Ponte Vedre, Spain from September 2-8 and will feature international wrestling’s future stars. Team USA is sending a loaded squad in the men’s freestyle division that will take the mats in Spain from September 6-8.
