2023-24 Pound-For-Pound Women's College Rankings
2023-24 Pound-For-Pound Women's College Rankings
Final pound-for-pound women's college rankings are here with several changes. Unlike individual weight class rankings, pound-for-pound rankings consider an extended body of work, signature wins, recent wins, and an overall season evaluation.
Only wrestlers who competed at the college national championships are eligible for the pound-for-pound rankings.
Adaugo Nwachukwu and Kylie Welker are neck-and-neck for the top spot but the William Penn star gets the nod for reaching Final X more recently and for winning three NAIA titles. Makoyed finished #1 last season but fell to Makoyed twice, which is why she's #3.
Marlynne Deede got the nod over Cameron Guerin because of her undefeated season and because she reached the US National finals in December.
Larramendy is rewarded for her win over Emma Bruntil at regionals and for winning a weight class that included Alara Boyd and Aine Drury. Drury reached the NCWWC finals and has a win over Boyd but only wrestled in two tournaments this season, and entered the pound-for-pound rankings at #25.
McKendree's Cam Guerin has losses to teammate Shelby Moore (US Nationals) and King's Victoria Baez Dilone (National Duals) this season but is rewarded for her fourth consecutive NCWWC title with a win over Baez Dilone. Her track record in the post-season is why she is ahead of Moore and Baez Dilone.
Felicity Taylor began the year at 123 pounds but moved up the rankings with her impressive win over Brianna Gonzalez in the NCWWC finals. King's Samara Chavez still ranks ahead of Gonzalez for being on the U.S. National team and reaching the 2023 U.S. National finals.
The 109-pound class offered the biggest dilemma. Mia Palumbo is ahead of Kaelani Shufeldt despite a loss to her at U.S. Nationals. Shufeldt lost to Ava Bayless at the National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships and Bayless lost twice to Palumbo during the college season. Kendra Ryan remains in the rankings despite placing fourth at nationals. Her third-place finish at U.S. National with wins over Bayless and Shufeldt keep her in the P4P rankings.
