Smith began his high school career during the 18-19 season finishing fourth in his conference tournament, and third in his sectional tournament to qualify him for the IHSAA regional tournament. Entering that offseason, Smith finished third at the cadet Indy nationals, third at the ISWA cadet folkstyle state tournament, and fifth at the Indy freco tournament. Smith was also a fourth place finisher at the ISWA freestyle state tournament heading into the 19-20 season. Smith saw improvement, winning his conference, finishing third at his sectional, and third at his regional to qualify for the IHSAA semi - state tournament.
