Originally competing for Russia, Musukaev made his senior-level debut in 2012. Musukaev still spent time at the junior level where he was a world silver medalist. Musukaev enjoyed much success during his time with Russia where he was a silver medalist at both the Ivan Yariguin and Russian nationals twice. Musukaev was a gold medalist at the intercontinental cup on three separate occasions and also won the Golden Grand Prix.
