OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Beatriz Alves, Hofstra

Sophomore | Setter | São José dos Campos, Brazil / Colégio Campos Salles

Alves helped Hofstra extend its winning streak to 10 matches. She posted back-to-back double-doubles, averaging 10.86 assists and 3.71 digs per set in a pair of wins over UNCW. 

On Saturday, Alves tallied 45 assists, 12 digs, three kills, three service aces and two blocks in an all-around effort, helping the Pride won in four sets. 

On Sunday, Hofstra won in straight sets behind 31 assists and 14 digs from Alves. She added two service aces, two blocks and a kill in the victory. 

Alves has a team-high eight double-doubles this season and leads the CAA in assists per set (9.93).

CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Emma Falk, Charleston

Senior | Middle Blocker | Niwot, Colorado / Niwot HS

Falk recorded a league-best 2.67 blocks per set to lead Charleston defensively in a 2-0 week for the Cougars. 

The senior middle blocker opened the weekend with a career-high 10 blocks in a straight-set victory over Northeastern, including six in the decisive third set. 

In the weekend finale, Falk tallied a match-high six blocks and added three kills to help Charleston secure the weekend sweep. 

Falk has at least five blocks in nine matches this season, including three straight.

CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Julia Patsos, Stony Brook

Junior | Libero | Oakdale, New York / Connetquot

Patsos paced the Stony Brook defense with 43 digs, 6.14 per set, over two matches over the weekend.

She recorded a .989 reception percentage and only made one error in 91 attempts. 

In Sunday’s win, Patsos tallied a career-high 30 digs to help Stony Brook top Delaware in five sets. 

On Saturday, she recorded a team-high 13 digs, despite a setback to the Blue Hens. 

It marks four straight matches with at least 10 digs for the junior, who has reached double-figures 14 times this fall. 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Kali Moore, Stony Brook

Freshman | Outside Hitter | Brooklyn, New York / Park Slope Collegiate

Moore continued her impressive rookie campaign, averaging 3.75 kills per set and 3.81 digs per set, including her ninth double-double this year in the Seawolves’ victory. 

On Sunday, the freshman outside hitter posted 23 kills and 22 digs, both career-bests for the Brooklyn native, leading Stony Brook to a five-set win over Delaware. 

She also contributed seven kills, nine digs and two service aces in the series opener. 

Moore has reached double-digit kills in 11 matches this fall and leads all CAA first-year student-athletes in kills per set (3.14).   

CONFERENCE NOTES

HOFSTRA ALONE ATOP CAA STANDINGS 

• Hofstra emerged as the last unbeaten team in CAA play, following a pair of wins over UNCW. 

The Pride is 10-0 after the victories, marking its best start in conference play since 2006. 

Hofstra sits one game ahead of Towson (9-1) and three games ahead of Delaware (7-3), which the Pride will host this weekend.

ELON HALTS RED-HOT TOWSON

• In a rematch of the 2021 CAA championship match, Elon avenged a five-set defeat by snapping Towson’s 18-match winning streak, which was the longest in the nation at the time. 

After jumping ahead two sets to none, the Tigers battled back to force a decisive fifth set. However, unlike their last matchup, the Phoenix held off Towson’s comeback attempt, defeating the Tigers in five. 

Towson bounced back to win Sunday to uphold a competitive series between the teams over the past two seasons.  

STRINGING WINS TOGETHER

• Not only is the Pride off to its best start in CAA play since 2006, but Hofstra’s 10-match winning streak is the longest for the Pride since 2014. In addition, Hofstra is one of just seven teams in NCAA D-I Volleyball maintaining an active winning streak of at least 10 contests. 

BATTLE OF BLUE & GOLD 

• Among the highlights of this weekend’s schedule is a battle of first-place Hofstra, hosting third-place Delaware. The series has been tight over the past several years, with Hofstra holding a slight 4-3 edge since 2018. 

Last season, the teams split a pair of matches in Newark, and the showdown should be just as good this time, with year-end implications.

TEAM NOTES

Charleston 

• Charleston ended a four-match skid with back-to-back straight-set victories over Northeastern. It marks the first time the Cougars have swept the season series against the Huskies since 2015. 

• Emma Falk paced Charleston defensively with 16 blocks (2.67 per set). On Saturday, Falk set a career-high with 10 blocks, before adding six blocks in Sunday’s weekend finale. 

• Lexi Wierzbicki tallied a team-best 20 kills (3.33 per set), while hitting .485 over the two matches. On Saturday, she led the team with 13 kills, marking her fifth double-digit kill performance this fall.  

Delaware

• Delaware split its weekend series with Stony Brook, earning a straight-set victory Saturday, before falling in a five-set battle Sunday. 

• Lani Mason recorded double-doubles in both contests for her eighth and ninth of the season. On Sunday, she tallied 23 kills and 16 digs, after 17 and 12 on Saturday. For the week, Mason averaged 5.00 kills and 3.50 digs per set. She has reached double-figure kills in every match this fall. 

• Lily Rogers also added a pair of double-doubles over the weekend. She recorded a season-high 48 assists and notched a new career-high with 20 digs on Sunday. The performance came after 25 assists and 11 digs Saturday.  

Elon

• Elon snapped Towson’s 18-match winning streak with a five-set victory Saturday, before falling to the Tigers in four sets Sunday to split the weekend series. 

• Leah Daniel paced Elon with 27 kills (3.00 per set,) and with her 16 kills in the Phoenix victory, she became the program’s all-time leader for career kills (1477). She surpassed the previous record of 1461, which was set by Velma Degree in 1993.  

• Jordan Gower anchored the Elon backline, recording 42 digs (4.67 per set) over the weekend. She registered a match-high 27 in the victory before 15 on Sunday. Gower has reached double-figures digs in all 15 of her performances this fall. 

Hampton 

• Hampton continued conference play, dropping a pair of matches to North Carolina A&T over the weekend. After falling in straight sets Saturday, the Pirates battled in a five-set match Sunday but ultimately suffered the defeat. 

• Clara Smith posted a team-high 16 kills (2.00 per set), including 11 on Sunday. It marks her third double-figure kill performance this season and first since Sept. 3.  

• Kristine Teivane added 15 kills (1.88 per set) and 25 digs (3.13 per set). On Sunday, she tallied her second double-double this fall with 10 kills and a season-high 17 digs. 

Hofstra 

• Hofstra extended its winning streak and improved to 10-0 in CAA play with a pair of wins over UNCW. It marks the best start for the Pride in CAA play since 2006 and its longest winning streak since 2014. 

• Beatriz Alves led the Pride with a pair of double-doubles, averaging 10.86 assists and 3.71 digs per set over the weekend. On Saturday, she recorded 45 assists and 12 digs, before 31 assists and 14 digs Sunday. Alves leads Hofstra with nine double-doubles this fall. 

• Izadora Stedile also contributed double-doubles in both contests. After 12 kills and 13 digs on Saturday, she tallied 11 kills and 13 digs in Sunday’s match. For the week, Stedile averaged 3.29 kills and 3.71 digs per set. 

North Carolina A&T

• North Carolina A&T went 2-0 against Hampton over the weekend, making it three wins in the past four matches for the Aggies.  

• Naiya Sawtelle paced North Carolina A&T, recording 34 kills (4.25 per set) and 24 digs (3.00 per set). Sawtelle tallied double-figure kills in both contests, including 19 to go with 18 digs for her fifth double-double this season in Sunday’s matchup. 

• On Sunday, a pair of Aggies set new career-high kill totals as Hannah Howell recorded 18 and Mallory Porcher tallied 10. For Howell, it is her eighth double-digit kill performance this season. 

UNCW

• UNCW dropped back-to-back contests against Hofstra over the weekend, falling to the Pride in four sets Saturday, before a straight-set defeat Sunday. 

• Katie Lanz led the UNCW attack with 18 kills (2.57 per set), matching a team-best with eight Saturday, followed by 10 in Sunday’s finale. With her performance Sunday, she has at least 10 kills in nine matches this season. 

• Quinn Manley tallied a team-best 35 digs (5.00 per set) to lead the Seahawks' backline. Manely tallied a season-high 20 digs on Saturday, adding 15 on Sunday. 

Northeastern 

• Northeastern dropped a pair of matches at Charleston in straight sets, falling for the first time in the month of October.  

• Erica Staunton reached double-digit kills in both matches, recording a team-high 23 (3.83 per set). With 10 kills Saturday and 13 on Sunday, Staunton has recorded at least 10 kills in 15 of her 16 appearances this fall. 

• Jessica Frannea facilitated the Huskie offense, recording 64 assists (10.67 per set). She had at least 30 in both contests and added 12 digs (2.00 per set) over the weekend. Frannea has 30 or more assists in 10 straight matches and 18 times this fall.  

Stony Brook

• Stony Brook earned a weekend split at Delaware. After dropping the series opener in straight sets, the Seawolves bounced back for a five-set victory in the weekend finale. 

• Kali Moore paced Stony Brook with 30 kills (3.75 per set) and added 31 digs (3.88 per set). In the Stony Brook victory, Moore set career-best marks with 23 kills and 22 digs, recording her ninth double-double this season. 

• Julia Patsos led the Seawolves’ defensive effort, tallying 43 digs (6.13 per set). She reached double-figures in both contests, including a career-high 30 digs Sunday. 

Towson 

• After seeing its 18-match winning streak snapped in a five-set defeat Saturday, Towson bounced back with a four-set victory Sunday. It’s the second straight year Towson and Elon have split their regular season series.  

• Lydia Wiers had a terrific weekend for the Tigers, recording 13 kills (1.44 per set) and 17 blocks (1.89 per set). She tallied a season-high 12 kills, adding eight blocks Saturday, before a season-best nine blocks in the series finale.

• Victoria Barrett led Towson with 25 kills (2.78 per set) and tallied 23 digs (2.56 per set). She was the lone Tiger to reach double-figure kills in both matches, which included her third double-double (11K, 15D) of the year Saturday.

William & Mary

• William & Mary had the week away from the court and will return to action with a pair of conference matches against Hampton this weekend. 

• Eleanor Stothoff leads the Tribe attack with 148 kills (3.15 per set) this season. She has 10 or more kills in back-to-back matches and five times this fall, while ranking fifth in the CAA in kills per set this season. 

• Anna Porter anchors the William & Mary defense with 276 digs (4.60 per set). Porter has 14 performances with double-digit digs, including 10 straight matches. She ranks second throughout the league in digs per set this season.
