OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Eliot Goldthorp, Hofstra

Sophomore | Midfield | Leeds, United Kingdom / Woodhouse Grove School

Goldthorp’s hat trick led the way in Hofstra’s win at Columbia, before he scored a pivotal goal in a CAA victory at UNCW. 

The sophomore from the UK tallied three of five Pride goals in a Tuesday trip into the city and notched a game-tying penalty in the 77th minute to pull even with the Seahawks to set up a 2-1 win Saturday.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Edmond Kaiser, Stony Brook

Senior | Goalkeeper | Karlsruhe, Germany / Helmholtz Gymnasium

Kaiser recorded his first clean sheet of 2022 to help Stony Brook earn three key CAA points on Saturday against Charleston. 

The senior keeper turned aside four Cougar shots in a 2-0 Seawolves victory. The shutout was the seventh of Kaiser’s career.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Jon Jelercic, Stony Brook

Freshman | Defender | Maribor, Slovenia

Jelercic factored into both Stony Brook goals in a 2-0 Saturday win over Charleston. 

The defender from Slovenia scored his first career goal in the 31st minute and assisted on a Jonas Bickus tally in the 72nd minute, as the Seawolves collected an important victory in the CAA standings.

NEWS AND NOTES

THREE TO GO

Two-thirds of the way through CAA play, three teams that would be in the CAA Championship field if the season ended today were not in the 2021 tournament.

UNCW (11), William & Mary (9), and Charleston (8) all enter Saturday in the top 6 with the opportunity to qualify for the CAA Championship, which has expanded back to six teams in 2022.

The Seahawks are looking to return to the conference tournament after having a nine-year run snapped last fall. William & Mary is aiming to get back for the first time since 2019. Charleston has its sights set on its first appearance since 2017.

RESUME WORKSHOP

The CAA is the No. 8 conference in the first NCAA RPI of 2022, which was released on Monday.

Three conference teams rank in the top 50, led by Hofstra (30) and joined by Elon (39) and UNCW (44).

WE CAN BE ZEROES

CAA defenses and goalkeepers have been among some of the nation’s best in 2022.

Elon’s eight shutouts in 12 games are tied for third nationally, while Monmouth and UNCW are tied for sixth with six in 10 games.

UNCW’s Gabriel Perrotta ranks ninth nationally with an .844 save percentage, while Elon’s Ryan Bilichuk is 21st at .812.

Bilichuk is seventh in the nation with a 0.500 goals-against average and Elon has earned Defensive Player of the Week in four of the season’s first seven weeks thanks to four different players - Bilichuk, Vemund Hole Vik, Kasper Lehm, and Myson Darden.

KEEPING THINGS CLEAN

Four CAA goalkeepers have produced at least five clean sheets in 2022.

Elon’s Ryan Bilichuk leads the nation with eight shutouts, while Monmouth’s Eryk Dymora is eighth with six. are tied for sixth with five each. UNCW’s Gabriel Perrotta and William & Mary’s Danilo Nikcevic have each recorded five this fall.

ELIOT GOAL-THORP

Hofstra’s Eliot Goldthorp is tied for second in the nation in goals (10), points (23), and game-winning goals (5).

Goldthorp’s first goal in a Hofstra uniform was an opening night game-winner at 89:59 that earned a spot on SportsCenter.

•   Adam Vik leads the CAA and is in the top 40 nationally with 4.09 saves per game.
