Drexel's Harris, James Madison's Peterson, Drexel's McHugh, and William & Mary's Huizenga selected as the CAA weekly award winners for women’s lacrosse.
RICHMOND, Va. (Feb. 21, 2022) – Drexel graduate student Karson Harris, James Madison sophomore Isabella Peterson, Drexel junior Belle McHugh, and William & Mary freshman Ainsley Huizenga have been selected as the Colonial Athletic Association weekly award winners for women’s lacrosse.

Harris helped No. 15 Drexel stay unbeaten with her performances in a win over a Penn State team ranked No. 25 last week and a victory over Lafayette. The midfielder from Maryland tallied three goals, one assist, six draw controls, two ground balls, and two caused turnovers in Wednesday’s 12-8 victory over the Nittany Lions before a six-goal outburst while adding an assist, three draws, three ground balls, and a caused turnover in the 16-4 win against Lafayette. For the week, Harris notched nine goals and two assists while corralling nine draw controls and recording five ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Isabella Peterson, James Madison

Peterson scored 10 goals and secured 11 draw controls in a two-game week for No. 18 James Madison, including six in a Saturday victory over previously-No. 23 UConn while playing at USA Lacrosse headquarters in her hometown. The attacker from Maryland collected four goals and nine draw controls in a Wednesday setback to Virginia Tech before tallying six goals, two draws, two ground balls, and a caused turnover in the 13-7 win over the Huskies.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Belle McHugh, Drexel

McHugh recorded six ground balls and six caused turnovers in a 2-0 week for No. 15 Drexel with a victory over previously-No. 25 Penn State and win over Lafayette. McHugh’s four caused turnovers in the win over the Leopards on Sunday were a career-high, while she secured five ground balls in the victory. Drexel leads the CAA and ranks 10th nationally with 6.33 goals per game allowed this season.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Ainsley Huizenga, William & Mary

Huizenga is the second William & Mary freshman to collect rookie honors in the first two weeks of the season. The midfielder from Florida earned her first career start against No. 8 Duke on Friday, recording a goal, four draw controls, and a ground ball. Huizenga added a ground ball in Tuesday’s visit to Richmond.
