In a battle of two nationally renowned but committed recruits, Gavin Nelson (Minnesota) will be taking on Dylan Fishback (Ohio) for the #1 spot at 195 lbs at Who’s Number One on September 18th.

Nelson, a Minnesota commit, will be defending the top spot. In addition to being a Minnesota state champ, he made this year’s Cadet World Team where he finished 5th. At Super 32 in 2020, Nelson beat both Seth Shumate and Caden Rogers en route to making the finals. Performances like this, along with his Cadet World Team Trials where he went 5-0 and outscored his opponents 53-1, have earned him the #4 spot on the Class of 2023 Big Board.

Nelson has spent the past year competing at 220 lbs/92 kg (202 lbs), but will be moving back down to prepare for his college career at 197 lbs.

Fishback, an NC State commit, is coming off of an impressive Fargo performance where he also beat Rogers and Shumate en route to the title at 195 lbs. The Aurora native wasn’t tested that much either winning 14-7 and by fall. It was at Fargo as well that Fishback cemented his high flying blast double to head cartwheel finish as one of his main takedowns.

In addition to being a Fargo champ, Fishback is an NHSCA Nationals champion and Akron 3rd place finisher. Will the senior have enough to take out the junior Cadet World Teamer and claim the undisputed top spot?
