Minnesota Narrows 16U Team Race Heading Into Finals
Pennsylvania is still in the lead, but with the same number of finalists, the 16U team title is still up for grabs.
First things first, a correction from yesterday’s team race update: for the first time the scoring is not 8 points for 1st place and 1 point for 8th place, but 25-20-15-12-9-7-5-2 points placing 1-8 in that order. Since we are now through all but the finals on the front side and to the consi round of 4 on the backside, we have actual team points to tally.
16U wrestling resumes tomorrow morning at 10 am EST with consolations. Finals and medal matches will be at 2:30 pm EST.

Pennsylvania is once again in the lead, but it’s looking a lot closer after day two than it was after day one. They went .500 in the semis going 4-4. Sam Herring (106), Tyler Kasak (138), Pierson Manville (145), and Sonny Sasso (195) made the finals. Both Mason Gibson and Vinny Kilkeary were upset. PA will continue to get big points on the backside as well with 5 of their 17 are in the consi semis.
While Minnesota has just as many finalists, they have less than half on the backside on only two consi semifinalists. They got a great boost from Zach Hanson who was down 8-0 in the semis before coming back to win. With PA’s power on the backside, Minnesota will have to come up big in the finals.
Despite being down 20 points, Ohio can still very much catch Minnesota for second. They have one less finalists, but just as many on the backside and the same number in the consi semis.
Arizona jumped up two spots from 9 to 7 after a solid semi final round where they picked up big wins from Kyler Larkin and Adrian Meza.
