141: Jaydin Eierman, Iowa vs Anthony Echemendia, Ohio State
149: Max Murin, Iowa vs Sammy Sasso, Ohio State
157: Zach Axmear, Iowa vs Elijah Cleary, Ohio State
165: Joe Kelly, Iowa vs Ethan Smith, Ohio State
174: Michael Kemerer, Iowa vs Kaleb Romero, Ohio State
184: Nelson Brands, Iowa vs Rocky Jordan, Ohio State
197: Jacob Warner, Iowa vs Gavin Hoffman, Ohio State
285: Anthony Cassioppi, Iowa vs Tate Orndorff, Ohio State
125: Spencer Lee vs Brady Koontz
1st period: Quick takedown from Lee, hammerlock and half and its 6-0 just like that! Two-one-tilt for four ore and it's 10-0. Another tilt to make it 14-0 and we've barely wrestled a minute. Bar and half and that should do it. Would've been a tech but Spencer gets another first period fall!
His scoring drought in the second and third periods, however, continues.

133: Austin DeSanto vs Dylan Koontz
1st period: Doubling up on Buckeye Koontzes today. DeSanto tricep control to a firemans and Kootnz fights the takedown too long and gives up four back points. Was in trouble but high-bridged out of it. DeSanto cuts Koontz loose and gets another takedown and two-more nearfall. Another escape and nifty slide-by makes it 12-2, almost two minutes of riding time as the period mercifully ends.
2nd period: DeSanto starts on bottom, stands, snap and a single gives him three more points. Escape and a takedown and its 17-3. Do it one more time and its a 19-4 techfall for Austin DeSanto. Add the riding time point if you want, I honestly don't remember if it officially counts or not. It's moot either way, as DeSanto dismantled Koontz for five Hawkeye team points.

141: Jaydin Eierman, Iowa vs Anthony Echemendia, Ohio State
1st period: They go into upper body ties early and Echemendia tries to muscle Eierman up for a throw. They're back in neutral and Eierman snags a single leg. Nimble defense from Echemendia to kick free and it's still 0-0. They trade upper body moves but no scores. Another single leg for Eierman that Echemendia wrestles out of. Less than a minute left in the first. Period ends with donuts on the scoreboard. Aggressive wrestling from both, though.
2nd period: Echemendia wants to stay on his feet for the second period. I don't blame him. They trade shots, slick throw-by for Eierman and he gets behind both arms with a leg grapevined and secures the first two points. Eierman working a half but time expires before he can get back points.
3rd period: Eierman takes top. Almost immediately slaps in a cradle. Echemendia goes over and it's a fall for Jaydin!

149: Max Murin, Iowa vs Sammy Sasso, Ohio State
1st period: The marquee matchup! Two Pennsylvania high school studs. Sasso scores first, slowly working a go-behind to make it 2-0 after 90 seconds. Murin is out after just 9 seconds. Murin down on a single leg but its stalemated with 10 seconds left in the first. Period ends 2-1 Sasso.
2nd period: Murin starts underneath. Murin out quickly, riding time at 24 ticks. Sasso shoots in and a scramble ensues. Sasso cranks a power half and Murin spins out of it and get into a seatbelt-whizzer. Stalemate. Half way thru the second, 2-2. Now a shot from Murin that gets stalemated.
3rd period: Sasso's turn on bottom. He's out quickly to regain the lead. Riding time not a factor. 3-2 Sasso and they're back in a scramble, Murin with a leg, Sasso sitting the corner. This is wear Sasso feasts. Murin bails as Sasso was working for a cradle and its 5-2. Murin out with RT at 41 seconds. 5-3, Murin can force OT with a takedown. Murin shoots but Sasso doesn't mind. He can sit the corner and hit a cradle. Which he does! A pin for Sasso as the Buckeyes get on the board!

157: Bretli Reyna, Iowa vs Elijah Cleary, Ohio State
1st period: Talented freshman from Florida Bretli Reyna gets the start for Kaleb Young, who is out due to covid protocols. Cleary will try to keep the momentum in the Buckeyes' favor. Cleary shoots, Reyna sits the corner and they give Reyna two. Tom Ryan challenges the call. As we wait for the review, the soothing sounds of Journey can be heard wafting through the gymnasium. Call confirmed, much to the consternation of Coach Ryan.
Clearly escape almost immediately on the restart. It's 2-1 after 90 seconds. Cleary attacks low, gets a single and finishes for two to take the lead. 3-2, Clearly looking for the ride out. Reyna can't escape and it it stays 3-2.
2nd period: Clearly selects the bottom position, he'll escape quickly to extend the lead to two. Clearly stays on the attack but Reyna fights off the leg attack. Second period ends in neutral, still 4-2 Cleary.
3rd period: Reyna's turn on bottom. He's out quickly to pull within one. It's 4-3, riding time not a factor. 30 seconds left in regulation, Reyna running out of time. Cleary holds his ground as Reyna never got close in short time. Another win for the Buckeyes as Cleary gets the decision!

165: Zach Axmear, Iowa vs Ethan Smith, Ohio State
1st period: Marinelli is still out due to covid protocols so it's Axmear out there against the #8 ranked Ethan Smith. Blast double from Smith gives him the first points. A cradle adds four more. Escape gives Axmear a point but it just sets him up for another takedown and cradle from Smith. The Buckeye races out to a 12-1 lead. 12-2 with the escape, now 14-3 with another takedown and release. 16-3 is how the period ends and we almost got a first period tech fall.
2nd period: Takedown off the whistle to ice things for Ethan Smith. Tech fall gives five more points to Ohio State.

174: Michael Kemerer, Iowa vs Kaleb Romero, Ohio State
1st period: Top 5 showdown as #1 Kemerer and #4 Romero step onto the mat. Cautious first couple minutes, not a lot of action. Snaps and hand fighting. A few half shots but we end the first period with nary a flurry and bagels on the scoreboard.
2nd period: Kemerer goes underneath and is out in three seconds. And a second point goes to Kemerer as Romero gets dinged for pulling on Kemerer's head gear. Period ends 2-0.
3rd period: Romero's turn on bottom. He's out in a hurry, 2-1, riding time not a factor. Now we get a flurry, Kemerer momentarily off balance but recovers. Romero favoring a leg. He may be hurt. Kemerer shoots in but runs out of real estate. Romero gets hit for stalling, just a warning, walking gingerly on one leg. Kemerer shoots Romero off the mat and another stall makes its 3-1. Romero guts through the match but can't get any offense going. Kemerer wins the match 3-1.
Iowa 20, Ohio State 14
184: Nelson Brands, Iowa vs Rocky Jordan, Ohio State
1st period: This one is big for seeding purposes. A very measured first two minutes, but the calm is punctured by a violent high-c from Brands. He converts for two and then gets the ride out to hold the 2-0 lead going into the second.
2nd period: Brands starts on bottom. He's out in 3 seconds, preserving 33 seconds of riding time. Shot by Jordan but Brands sprawls and we get a stalemate. No more scores and we go to the third 3-0.
3rd period: Jordan takes neutral and will try to win this on his feet. We get a lot of handfighting but Jordan can't get by Brands' head and hands defense. That's how the match ends, 3-0 gritty win for Nelson.

197: Jacob Warner, Iowa vs Chase Singletary, Ohio State
1st period: Singletary getting the start instead of Gavin Hoffman, Buckeyes with two quality options at 197. Warner digging underhooks but Singletary wrestles out of danger. Nice single leg in short time by Warner. Singletary goes for the gator bacon, ill advised as Warner plants him on his back and collects four near fall. Warner rides out the final seconds and its 6-0 after three minutes.
2nd period: Singletary will try to get on the board from the bottom position. Warner keeping him on the mat for the first 30 seconds. RT creeping up over 1 minute. Singletary granbies, was in danger but escapes with 30 seconds left. Warner back on the attack, single to a double, cracks back and gets two more. It's 8-1 as Warner finished the period on top. RT at about two minutes.
3rd period: Warner picks feet, doesn't want to test out Singletary's top work. Warner in an upper body lock and Singletary walks backwards out of bounds, wisely giving up a stall warning than something far worse. Counter by Warner who ducks under Singletary's defenses and collects two more. It's 10-1 with riding time secured. 20 seconds to go. Make it 11-1 at the buzzer and Warner secures the major.

Iowa 27, Ohio State 14
285: Tony Cassioppi, Iowa vs Tate Orndorff, Ohio State
1st period: They trade upper body ties, then Cass man hits an arm drag into a single leg and blasts through Orndorff's defenses, picking up the first points of the match. Granby attempt by Orndorff but Cassioppi rides him tough. Rides out the period in fact. 2-0 in the second.
2nd period: More tough riding from Cassioppi but Orndorff finally escapes to get on the board. Body lock from Cassioppi. And he takes Orndorff to his back! And its a fall for Tony Cassioppi!
Ending the dual with an exclamation point and the Hawkeyes win big.
