North Carolina redshirt freshman and 2019 Junior World bronze medalist Gabriel Tagg has entered the transfer portal.
This needs to be addressed. I have entered the transfer portal for personal reasons. Nothing but love and respect for my coaches here at UNC, but I feel this is the best decision for me. Thank you UNC for everything.

This does not necessarily mean that Tagg will be leaving Chapel Hill or even stop competing for the Rams.
Tagg went 15-5 in true freshman season at 141 pounds and is 1-1 so far this season. Tagg was a top 100 recruit coming out of high school in 2019. The Ohio native forwent his senior year to train at the Olympic Training Center as part of the Elite Accelerator Program. It paid off as Tagg pinned Roman Bravo-Young at the 2019 US Open and would go on to defeat teammate Jaime Hernandez for the 61 kg Junior World Team spot.

Tagg would go on to win bronze at the World Championships in Estonia.
If Tagg does decide to leave North Carolina, it could be a major lightweight pickup for another team.
