One Of The Deepest Weights
138 is just one of the handful of weights that will have double-digit top 20 ranked wrestlers in action. You can see the complete breakdown of ranked wrestlers at the bottom of the article, but four of the top 10 at the weight and five overall top 10 ranked wrestlers will be looking to bring home a belt.
Despite all the ranked wrestlers in action, only three are returning Super 32 placers. Alex Almeyda was third at 120 last year picking up two wins over Jordan Titus along the way, Caden McCrary was sixth at this weight last October and had a win over Nick Moore who finished in seventh place.
Watch Almeyda beat Jordan Titus for third place last year.
What Will We Get From The Arizona Hammers?
Ramon Ramos burst onto the scene last year winning an NHSCA Sophomore National title, was third at FloNationals in Greco, fifth at FloNationals in freestyle, and made the Fargo finals in both styles winning the stop sign in Greco-Roman. However, he just took a loss in the finals of Freakshow to unranked Michael Gioffre.
The other Arizona hammer in the field that could make some noise is Ben Alanis. Alanis was third at NHSCA Sophomore Nationals losing to Ramos in the semifinals, made the FloNationals finals in freestyle where he lost to Jesse Mendez and last month took Mendez to overtime in the IndianaMat Hoosier Preseason Open.
If these two show up on their A-game, watch out.
Watch Ramos and Alanis battle in the NHSCA Nationals semifinals.
No Clear-Cut Favorite
As I mentioned in my 113 lbs preview, the majority of weights have a clear favorite or established top two or three, but this weight, like 113, is wide open as well. Along with the returning placers, (Almeyda, McCrary, Moore) you have two-time Pennsylvania state runner-up Levi Haines, NHSCA Freshman Nationals runner-up Justin Bartee, New York state runner-up Jayden Scott, Illinois state champion Nasir Bailey, and Missouri state champion Kyle Dutton just to name a few.
Watch Levi Haines beat Pennsylvania state champion Jackson Arrington in the semifinals.
