2003 World silver medalist and 1997 Hodge Trophy winner Kerry McCoy has been hired as the executive director and head coach of the California Regional Training Center at Stanford.

From Andy Hamilton and TrackWrestling: “We want to be the premier place,” McCoy said. “When people think about success in wrestling, we want them to think about Palo Alto and the California Regional Training Center. That’s the ultimate goal. We want to create Olympic and World champions at every level. That’s my goal — to have a successful organization that’s going to win championships at a high level, but also build strong character and put our athletes and coaches, as we expand, on a path to be successful in life overall.”

McCoy was the Stanford head coach from 2005-2008.

After his time at Stanford, McCoy was the head coach at Maryland for 11 seasons. During his tenure in Maryland, McCoy guided the Terps to four top-20 finishes at the NCAA championships, three Atlantic Coast Conference titles, and coached eight Terps to a total of 12 All-America awards. He was named ACC Coach of the Year three times.

As an athlete, McCoy went 150–18 and won the NCAA heavyweight championships in 1994 and 1997 while wrestling at Penn State. After college, McCoy became a two-time Olympian and three-time World Team member. His 1998 World Championship experience inspired the FloFilm INJUSTICE: Kerry McCoy in Tehran.
