Alabama was picked as the preseason favorite but got off to a rocky start with eight losses. Tennessee picked second, stumbled out of the gate dropping games to East Tennessee State, South Florida, UCF, North Carolina, and Stanford.

Florida, to everyone’s surprise, but the Gators showed the most promise of taking the regular season and SEC Tournament. With a 23-4 record, newcomers Charla Echols and Rylee Trilicek proved to be solid pickups for their offense and pitching.
LSU's pitching was on fire heading into March leading the nation in ERA only three losses on the season.
