The bats came alive for the Winona State softball team on Thursday as they scored a combined 24 runs over two games to nab two victories. The Warriors defeated Ashland 10-2 in game one and erupted for nine seventh inning runs to defeat Northwood 14-2 in the second game.

With the sweep the Warriors' record now stands at 11-6 on the year.

In game one, Winona State scored seven runs over the first two innings to put their stamp on the contest. In the first inning, Alexis Kelsey hit an RBI double to open the scoring up for the Warriors. Marissa Mullen then hit a two-RBI double to triple the Warrior advantage.

In the second inning, Rylee Stout hit an RBI single to score Madison Meduna. Two batters later, Kelsey showed off her power with a three-run blast to make it 7-2 after two.

The Warriors scored their final three runs in the fourth off RBI's from Mullen and Ann Smolensk to take the game 10-2.

Jordyn Kleman (5-4) went the distance in the win, allowing just four hits and striking out eight.

Just like in most of their games this year, Winona State took the lead early in the second game. Libby Neveau hit a home run to left field to put the Warriors up 1-0 after two.

After Northwood briefly took the lead in the second, the Warriors used RBI's from Neveau and Marissa Mullen to take the lead back for good in the third.

After two more Warrior runs in the fourth, Winona State took off in the seventh. Ann Smolenski started things out with a sacrifice fly to make it 7-2. Jen Giesey hit an RBI single and then scored on a wile pitch two batters later. Ali Nowak then hit a two-RBI double to left to tack on a few more runs. Alexis Kelsey finished the game out with a three-run homer.

Alexis Kelsey and Ali Nowak both had incredible days. Kelsey went 5-for7 with seven RBI's and four runs scored, while Nowak went 5-for6 with three RBI's and four runs scored.

Liz Pautz allowed just four hits over seven innings to get the win.
