In the shadow of a 31-24 campaign in 2019 that, by all accounts, ended a bit prematurely, Gonzaga is locked and re-loaded heading into 2020.

The Zags were again tabbed as the favorite in the West Coast Conference, with a trio of Preseason All-WCC standouts in the lineup — headlined by junior right-hander Alek Jacob.

Jacob recently picked up NCBWA Preseason All-America honors a month after being tabbed as a Perfect Game All-American. The Spokane native went 5-1 with seen saves and a 1.60 ERA in WCC play a season ago — 7-3 with 12 saves overall.

Opposing hitters managed to hit just .200 against Jacob in 2019. And it’s safe to say that he will, once again, be asked to carry the load for Gonzaga this season.

Infielders Brett Harris and Ernie Take also picked up Preseason All-WCC honors after earning their way onto the postseason all-league team last summer.

Yake hit .302, drove in 30 runs and scored 41 of his own in 2019 — a year after leading the team with a .322 clip as a redshirt freshman. The Bellingham, Wash., native was named to the Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-America Team.

Harris, who began his career at Houston before arriving in Spokane by way of Central Arizona College, hit .305 with a dozen double and 26 RBI and picked up All-WCC Honorable Mention honors at the conclusion of last season.

Gonzaga begins its season on Feb. 14 at the Sanderson Ford Collegiate Baseball Classic in Surprise, Ariz. The Zags will meet BYU and New Mexico once, and will take on No. 25 Oregon State twice. All four games will stream LIVE on FloBaseball.tv and the FloSports app.
