Evan Wick Makes Statement Against #3 White

In probably the wildest dual of the weekend, #6 Evan Wick took out #3 Isaiah White 10-6. The result was only an upset on paper as Wick is now 5-1 against White, but the win was important for Wick's eventual Big Ten and NCAA seeds.

It was White who struck first in the match, earning a first-period takedown, but Wick poured in on after that in a match that turned into a convincing win. That match is fun, but it's even more fun inside the context of the complete dual meet. That one is worth watching (or re-watching) from start to finish.

Chris Weiler Knocks Off #5 DePrez, Then Gets Upset

One of the first matches of the weekend was also one of the biggest upsets as #21 Chris Weiler beat #5 Lou DePrez 6-2 in Lehigh's dual with Binghamton. The Lehigh junior had a loss to DePrez at last year's Southern Scuffle but reversed that result on Friday.

In a strange turn of events, Weiler followed up his big upset win with an upset loss to Cornell's unranked Jonathan Loew on Saturday demonstrating the challenging level of competition in the NCAA.

Warner Gets the 'W' Over #2 Brunner

The #1 spot in the 197 rankings has belonged to Kollin Moore this year, but the remaining 24 spots have been steadily changing hands. Iowa's Jacob Warner, who has been ranked as high as #2 himself, had a productive weekend, beating Purdue's #2 Christian Brunner.

Their Sunday match was the rubber match in a three-match series that began at the 2017 Midlands, where Brunner won, and continued at last year's Big Ten Championships, a match Warner won.

This match was an 8-2 win for Warner. Not only was this win big for Warner's individual positioning at the 197 weight class, it was another positive sign for Iowa who appears to be firmly in front in this year's team race but will need results like these from its sophomore 197-pounder.

Tristan Moran Takes Out #6 Red & #2 McKee

Wisconsin's Tristan Moran had perhaps the most successful weekend in all of NCAA wrestling. On Friday night in Minnesota, Moran had a 7-6 win over the Gophers' #2 Mitch McKee.

He followed that up with a wild win over #6 Chad Red. The match appeared to be all Red early as the Husker had a first-period takedown and a mountain of riding time, but Moran picked up steam as the match went on and cradled Red late in both the second and third periods to earn a major decision.

Moran appeared to be injured after Sunday afternoon's match. Hopefully he recovers soon so that he can capitalize on the momentum he's building. With those two wins, Moran is now 15-2 and one of the nation's top 141-pounders.

Henry Pohlmeyer Stays Unbeaten Against #7 Thomsen

South Dakota State's Henry Pohlmeyer has had Max Thomsen's number throughout their careers and is now 3-0 over the seventh-ranked Panther. Thomsen, an All-American, is more accomplished than Pohlmeyer, but the Jackrabbit owns this three-match series.

The first two bouts between Thomsen and Pohlmeyer were one-point affairs, but Pohlmeyer opened things up on Friday, earning a 9-1 major decision in his most convincing win yet. Pohlmeyer's win helped propel SDSU to an upset win over #14 Northern Iowa.

Lucas Davison Arrives with Wins Over #2 Brunner & AA Rasheed

Northwestern had six ranked wrestlers in the last set of NCAA rankings. Lucas Davison will make it a seventh when an updated version drops tomorrow. On Friday, Northwestern hosted #6 Purdue which meant Davison had a bout with #2 Christian Brunner. Davison took Brunner to overtime where he earned a controversial takedown for his first upset of the weekend.

His second big win wasn't technically an upset as Rasheed hadn't been considered the official starter for Penn State until after last week's rankings had already dropped, but for all intents and purposes, Davison's win over the Penn State All-American was an upset. The 7-5 Davison win was action-packed and definitely worth rewatching.

Another Upset for Yaraslau Slavikouski

Harvard heavyweight Yaraslau Slavikouski is putting together a solid season. He had wins over Fresno State All-American Josh Hokit and #14 Carter Isley at Midlands en route to his fourth-place finish there.

This weekend, the 12th-ranked Slavikouski kept the ball rolling with a win over #16 Jere Heino of Campbell and an upset win over #10 Gannon Gremmel of Iowa State. The first-year Harvard wrestler continues to register impressive results and put himself in the national conversation at heavyweight.

Joey Silva Earns Upset in Michigan Debut

Friday night was eventful for Michigan fans who have been eagerly awaiting the varsity debut of redshirt freshman Joey Silva at 133. Silva's first match in a Wolverine singlet was a solid test against #25 Garrett Pepple of in-state rival Michigan State. Silva controlled the bout 7-2 for a nice start to his Michigan career.

Silva came to Ann Arbor from high school power program Lake Highland Prep in Florida and ended his career as the seventh-ranked recruit in the class of 2018. He's now off to a good start in his varsity college career.
