We're starting at 125. Over a half-hour away and the gym is filling up. Purdue's basketball team just beat #8 Michigan State by like 30 points about an hour ago, so maybe we'll get some delirious Boilermaker students in the midst of their celebration stopping by. Wouldn't count on it but maybe!

Just minutes from first whistle and we've got what appears to be a sell out. The only open seats I notice are what I believe are the reserved section. Standing room only everywhere else. 

Announcing the starting lineups for the handshakes. Most guys have their wrestling shoes on but Abse Assad has on Birkenstocks and Jacob Warner is wearing Crocs. Upper weights gotta stay comfortable when you're starting at 125!

Crowd sounds about 50/50. Will update as the matches get underway. 

125 Pounds

#1 Spencer Lee, Iowa vs #7 Devin Schroder, Purdue

1st period:  Schroder comes out aggressive and Lee throws him by, then drops to a leg. Converts for two and starts his punishing ride. Schroder having a tough time getting off his belly. Lee flips Schrode with a two on one tilt and gets a four count. After changing grips Lee works an arm bar and he's got more back points. Lee too strong, Schroder unable to do anything but bridge. A masterful job on top, Spencer Lee gets a first-period tech fall! Very impressive performance but the Hodge contender. 

Iowa 5, Purdue 0.

Lee has some motivating words for DeSanto as the two pass each other. 

133 Pounds

#2 Austin DeSanto, Iowa vs Travis Ford-Melton, Purdue

1st period: DeSanto doing DeSanto things right away. Tricep control to a fireman's carry. DeSanto holds TFM on his back for a two count before Ford-Melton can belly out. Early 4 point lead for the whirling Dervish. DeSanto cuts him to start working from neutral. DeSanto has a leg and they scramble. DeSanto converts and immediately starts working a turn. Not quite an armbar, not quite a chicken wing, but it is four more points and a 10-1 lead. Another turn and DeSanto leads 14-1 at the end of the first. Very Spencer Lee like performance so far. 

2nd period. DeSanto starts on bottom and gets a quick escape. He's looking for a fireman's but settles for a go behind. That's back to back tech falls for Iowa!

Iowa 10, Purdue 0

Neither guy pleased with the other after that match ended. Some mean stares but no real 'extracurriculars'. 

141 Pounds

#7 Max Murin, Iowa vs Parker Filius, Purdue

1st period: Murin has his left arm in a brace but he was able to win Midlands with the same set up so it hasn't bothered him that much. Low level shot after 2 minutes and Murin converts cleaning. A couple mat returns for Murin keeps Filius down for the remainder of the period. Murin has 59 seconds of riding time.

2nd period: Murin doesn't have much trouble escaping, he's out after 7 seconds and it's 3-0. Murin in on a single quickly and nearly has two but it's not called. Tom Brands thought about challenging but decided against it. Restart in neutral. One minute to go in the period. There's a flurry as both wrestlers shoot simultaneously, then reshoot. Murin gets the better of the scramble and it's 5-0. 13 seconds left in the period and we'll break for blood time. Murin has a cut on his left cheek. He is attended to and we're ready to go. Filius can't escape, and in fact was looking for a defensive fall when time ran out. The Purdue fans in attendance made themselves heard for the first time in this dual. 

3rd period: Filius starts on bottom. Murin has over a minute of riding time and counting. A mat return out of bounds later and he's got 1:35 of RT. Filius is able to build to his base but Murin is not letting him go. Filius gets to his feet, they go out of bounds. Murin called for stalling, as per the rules. 30 seconds to go in the match, RT locked up. Murin picks up another caution which gives Filius his first point. But it's academic as there are less than 5 seconds to go in the match. Filius does not get a second point and Murin gets a dominant decision 6-1. 

Iowa 13, Purdue 0

149 Pounds

#1 Pat Lugo, Iowa vs Nate Limmex, Purdue

1st period: Lugo grabs a near close to the first minute mark of the match. Limmex grabs a far ankle and they go into a prolonged scramble. Lugo emerges with the takedown and the two-point lead. Lugo riding tough for over a minute now. Just a few requests for stalling from both sides. Lugo gets the ride out and the sizable contingent of Hawkeye fans show Pat their approval in the form of applause. It's standing room only, by the way. Every seat has got a butt in it. 

2nd period: Lugo starts on bottom but doesn't start there long. It's 3-0 after a quick escape, RT clock at 1:33 in favor of Lugo. Limmex takes the next shot but can only muster a stalemate. A nice high-c from Limmex but Lugo defends and denies the Boilermakers their first takedown of the meet. It's 5-0, RT climbing over the 2 minute mark in short time. Lugo rides out the period. 

3rd period. Limmex picks neutral for the final period of regulation. Lugo changes levels and gets to a single leg. Works up the leg, collects the second leg to make it 7-0. RT locked up and then some. Less than a minute left in regulation. Lugo's got the major, but will need another rideout or a takedown if Filius escapes. No need for a takedown, Lugo gets the ride out and the major. Iowa keeps rolling, sweeping the first four matches!

Iowa 17, Purdue 0

157 Pounds

#4 Kaleb Young, Iowa vs #6 Kendall Coleman, Purdue

1st period: One of, if not the marquee matchups of the day. It was a sudden victory pinfall for Young just a couple weeks ago at Midlands but it was about as close as a match as you could have. Aggressive hand fighting, some Russian ties and a headlock but no scores after a minute. Young shoots but Coleman stuffs it. Young taking ground, Coleman close to picking up a stall call. Nothing yet after 2 minutes. Shortime in the first and the Iowa bench and fans are looking for a the stall call. They get it as Young takes a shot and converts cleanly. He gets the short rideout to make it 2-0 going into the second. 

2nd period: Young starts down and is out quickly. RT not a factor, Young leads 3-0. Double leg attempt by Coleman, but Young catches him. Blood time, looks like Coleman's nose, with 1:09 on the match clock. A good flurry as Young shoots and Coleman nearly hits a slide by. 

3rd period: Coleman stands and escapes after about 10 seconds and they're back in neutral. Coleman reattacks after another Young shot and gets the first takedown of the dual for the Boilermakers. Crowd getting into it. A mad scramble but Coleman holds on for a stalemate, but then cuts him on the restart. Close to giving up a reversal on the scramble so it wasn't all for naught. 30 seconds to go in the match Young leads by 1, Coleman has a stall call. Coleman shoots Young out of bounds and Young picks up a stall call. Just 10 seconds to go though. Coleman attacking ferociously but Young stays in the center and defends. Young beats Coleman for the second consecutive time. Impressive performance from both guys but it's Young with another gutty win. Iowa stays perfect at the halfway break. 

Iowa 20, Purdue 0

165 Pounds

#2 Alex Marinelli, Iowa vs Tanner Webster, Purdue

1st period: Marinelli attacks right off the whistle and converts in about 5 seconds to take an early 2-0 lead. Marinelli cut Webster, who then fires off a shot, but Marinelli anticipated it and is behind him before Webster can adjust. It's 4-1, now 4-2 after Marinelli allows another escape. Another single leg takedown makes its 6-2. Marinelli working the armbar, steps over. He's going to hit another figure four of the head, and there's the fall! Just like that. And it's save to say it's Marinelli's signature move now. 

Someone else has to have to pin someone with a figure four to the head at least once before anyone else can challenge Alex for the right to call that their signature move. 

Iowa 26, Purdue 0

174 Pounds

#3 Michael Kemerer, Iowa vs #4 Dylan Lydy, Purdue

1st period: Another marquee match. Kemerer hasn't had a lot of matches this season but is a two-time All-American. Lydy is a perfect 21-0 after a very tough schedule. Kemerer consistently taking ground from Lydy, and there's a stall on Lydy now as Kemerer takes a shot. We stop for blood time, Kemerer's nose, with 1:04 on the clock. Lydy shoots, Kemerer reattacks, he's got Lydy's leg, he hauls him back to the center, Lydy not giving him his second leg, the scramble continues and Lydy survives without giving up the takedown. 

2nd period: Kemer is out after 3 seconds to take the 1-0 lead. A lot of handfighting, not a ton of action. A shot from Kemerer draws another stall to make it 2-0. The period ends still in neutral.

3rd period: Lydy escapes in 3 seconds as well to make it 2-1. Lydy shoots, Kemerer defends. Kemerer shoots, Lydy was unprepared, Kemerer gets the takedown. It's 4-1. Lydy escapes, they're in a scramble, stalemated. Lydy shoots again but Kemerer is ready for him and spins around for two. Lydy escapes, 45 to go, Kem leads 6-3. An escape, another scramble and another two points for Kemerer. Its 8-3, Kemerer finishing strong. Another escape for Lydy but that is it, Kemerer wins 8-4 in a very tough scrap by both wrestlers. 

Iowa 29, Purdue 0

184 Pounds

Abe Assad, Iowa vs Max Lyon, Purdue

1st period: Assad has his redshirt pulled on Friday. Lyon missed out on Midlands but also wrestled on Friday. Big flurry early on but no scores. Lyon shoots with about a minute left in the period and has Assad diving for an ankle. Assad manages a stalemate and we go back to the center. Assad in on a shot in shortime, Lyon sprawls but Assad muscles through and gets the takedown with just a few seconds left in the period. 

2nd period: Lyon starts down. The early escape makes it 2-1 in Lyon's favor. Assad shoots in with a little over a minute to go in the second, Lyon stops him and they're back in neutral. Lyon takes a few shots but Assad avoids any real danger. Period ends without any new action. 

3rd period: Assad gets a turn underneath. He escapes quickly to make it 3-1. Assad with a double leg but Lyon counters with a whizzer. Assad limp arms out of it and covers for two. Lyon escapes quickly and it's 5-2 with 40 seconds to go. Another flurry but no scores and that's how the match will end, Iowa picks up another win. Shut out still in play for the Hawkeyes.

Iowa 32, Purdue 0

197 Pounds

#4 Jacob Warner, Iowa vs #2 Christian Brunner, Purdue

1st period: This is likely Purdue's last shot at avoiding the shut out. Though Brunner won a Midlands bracket that Warner was in, they two did not wrestle each other. Warner digs an underhook and walks Brunner out of bounds. That draws a stall call from the ref. On the restart Brunner level changes and gets a hold of a single leg. He's trying muscle through Warner's sprawl but instead they go out of bounds. Warner did a good job getting to the side and hipping into him to stop Brunner's attack. Brunner attacks again but Warner sprawls on him deep. They wrestle to their feet. Both wrestlers have over unders locked up. And we get a stalemate, much to the dismay of everyone in the gym hoping for something cool to happen. The period ends with no scores. 

2nd period. Warner starts on bottom and escapes after 11 seconds. Brunner shoots and gets in on Warner's legs again but Warner defends and earns a stalemate. One minute to go in the period. An ankle pick from Warner does land. Burnner attacks but Warner defends. Short time, another shot by Brunner, Warner reattacks, but time expires. 

3rd period: Warner has a cut over his left eye that needs attending to. Brunner begins in the down position. He stands, but Warner locks up a two on one and brings him back to the mat in danger. Warner gets a four count and now takes a 5-0 lead. The Hawkeye crowd lets out a thunderous cheer. 1:07 to go. Brunner escapes to make it 5-1. Warner gets a body lock and muscles Brunner to the mat. It's 7-1, now 7-2 with the escape. time runs out and with a RT point make it 8-2 officially.

Iowa 35, Purdue 0

285 Pounds

#4 Tony Cassioppi, Iowa vs Thomas Penola, Purdue

1st period: Cassioppi with a noticeable size advantage over Penola. The boilermaker started the year at 197. Cassioppi gets a takedown right at the 1 minute mark. One arm bar and head scoop later and Tony Cassioppi ends the dual with a pinfall!

Iowa 41, Purdue 0

Not a lot for the Boilermaker fans to cheer for. Iowa dominant, winning all the close ones and picking up multiple bonus victories. 

That completes Iowa weekend in Indiana. I think it's safe to say it went pretty well for them. They didn't drop a match. There's a reason they're #1!
