Life University raced to a 33.5-point lead over second-place Grand View (118.5-85) after the first day of the 2025 NAIA Women’s Freestyle Championships. The Running Eagles sent six to the semifinals, with four alive in the consolation round. 

Teammates Sarah Savidge and Olivia Mottley compete at 131 pounds, so only one can finish third at best. 

The Marietta, Georgia-based school is seeking its first team title after finishing second three of the past four years.

Life did most of its damage during the quarterfinals, winning six of 10 matches. Anaya Falcon (110), Salyna Shotwell (117), Zaynah McBryde (138), Jamilah McBryde (145), Latifah McBryde (160), and Savannah Isaac (207) are alive for titles. 

"It has been an amazing day one," Life coach Ashley Flavin said. "Every athlete earned points for the team, and 10 All-Americans is a new program record. The team battled and won some big matches but bounced back under adversity. The depth of this tournament is incredible, and I am blown away by what they have accomplished as a group."

Iowa-based Grand View and William Penn are currently neck-and-neck for second place. The Vikings have two semifinalists, and the Statesmen have three. 

Fourth-place Cumberlands had an impressive day. Second-seeded Katie Gomez reached the 124-pound semifinals and is on a collision course with returning champion and top-seeded Cristelle Rodriguez of Doane. Five Patriots are alive in consolation.

Missouri Valley has four semifinalists: Jasmina Immaeva (124), Xochitl Mota-Pettis (131), Sevreign Aumua (145), and Kelani Corbett (180).  

Southern Oregon's Carolina Moreno reached the 131-pound semifinals and is still alive to become the first four-time NAIA women's freestyle champion.
