Eight teams will enter, but only one shall leave the Torodome as NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament West Region Champions in 2025.

No. 1 seed Cal State Dominguez Hills hosts the best teams from the West in Carson, Calif. as the Toros enter the region as No. 4-ranked team in the country with a dominant 31-1 record that includes a 21-1 record in CCAA play. The lone loss came on Feb. 22 against Chico State at the Torodome, 75-71.

But the Toros bounced back and have reeled off four straight wins since, including winning the CCAA Championship after a 77-54 win over Cal Poly Pomona on March 8.

Cal State Dominguez Hills will open the West Region with a matchup against Azusa Pacific University, a notable Track and Field school that hosts the famed Bryan Clay Invitational in April.

The women’s basketball team is hoping to go on quite a run after a 22-6 season. The Cougars, the No. 2 seed in the PacWest Conference and the No. 25-ranked team in the country, were stunned in the conference tournament by Dominican. That loss pushed them to the No. 8 seed in the region and set up one of the best games of the first round of the tournament.

That game is set for 8 p.m. ET on March 14, along with three other games at the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament West Region that are all streaming on FloCollege and the FloSports app.

Here’s what to know about the West Region.

What Teams Are In The West Region?

CSUDH is No. 4 in the country but have a top-25 matchup to start the tournament with No. 25-ranked Azusa Pacific.

Cal Poly Pomona (25-5), making their 30th tournament appearance, is ranked No. 14 in the WBCA rankings.

Alaska Anchorage (27-4) heads to the Lower 48 with a No. 16 ranking and serious darkhorse potential after winning the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championship.

The fifth-ranked team in the region is Point Loma Nazarene, with a 25-5 record and a No. 23 ranking.

That’s right. Every game in the West Region first round features a top-25 team. And a sixth team, Montana State Billings, entered the championship tournament week as the No. 25-ranked team.

Here are the seeds:

  • No. 1 Cal State Dominguez Hills
  • No. 2 Cal State Poly Pomona
  • No. 3 Point Loma Nazarene
  • No. 4 Alaska Anchorage
  • No. 5 Montana State Billings (25-7)
  • No. 6 Central Washington (21-7)
  • No. 7 Cal State Chico (23-7)
  • No. 8 Azusa Pacific

NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament West Region Schedule

Here’s the First Round schedule for the region. All times are ET on March 14.

Semifinal matchups are scheduled for March 15 at 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. with the West Region Championship Game set for 10 p.m. on March 17.

NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament West Region Outlook

Cal State Dominguez Hills is the favorite as the No. 4 team in the country and with just one loss on the year, but they have a terribly tough game out of the gates with Azusa Pacific.

The Cougars are led by Kelly Heimburger, the two-time PacWest Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. CSUDH, though, are led by CCAA Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year themselves in Nala Williams.

In a region where six teams were either ranked or received votes entering the tournament, every game is a minefield for the top four teams.

Alaska Anchorage, the Seawolves, bounced back from a 57-53 loss to Saint Martin’s on March 1 to beat them 75-59 in the GNAC Championship Game. That March 1 loss snapped an eight-game winning streak that started after a 70-55 loss to MSU Billings on Jan. 25. That's who the Seawolves open with and who they beat on Feb. 20, 87-64.

And of course, eyes will be on Chico State, who opens with Cal Poly Pomona. Chico State is the only team to beat No.1 seed CSUDH this season.
