NCAA D2 Women's Basketball Tournament South Central Region Preview
Can anyone stop Texas Woman's Basketball from advancing to the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament Elite Eight? These seven teams will try.

The NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament’s South Central Region includes the No. 1 team in the country in the WBCA rankings and one of the overwhelming favorites to win the whole thing.
Texas Woman’s University (31-1 overall, 21-1 in Lone Star Conference) is hosting the South Central Region in Denton, Texas, at Kitty Magee Arena. The Pioneers are coming off a dominant showing in the LSC Basketball Championship, where they beat then-No. 8 ranked Lubbock Christian 73-66 in overtime in the championship game.

The Pioneers will host Adams State at 6 p.m. ET on March 14, but that’s just one of four games in the first round of the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament’s South Central Region, which is streaming live on FloCollege and the FloSports app. Here’s what to know about the South Central Region.
What Teams Are In The South Central Region?
There are eight teams in the 64-team field that were sent to the South Central Region, and they include No. 1-ranked TWU, No. 10-ranked University of Texas-Tyler (25-4), No. 11-ranked Lubbock Christian (29-4) and No. 22-ranked Colorado Mesa (25-5).
The seeds are:
- No. 1 TWU
- No. 2 Lubbock Christian
- No. 3 UT Tyler
- No. 4 Colorado Mesa
- No. 5 Eastern New Mexico (20-9)
- No. 6 West Texas A&M (18-12)
- No. 7 UC Colorado Springs (19-11)
- No. 8 Adams State (19-11)
The winner of the South Central Region will face the winner of the NCAA Division II West Region Championship in the Elite Eight in Pittsburgh at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.

NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament South Central Region Outlook
TWU is the favorite entering the region, and that was only reinforced after the Pioneers beat Lubbock Christian on March 9. They also ended the regular season on Feb. 27 with a win over UT Tyler, 71-61. However, the only team to beat TWU this season was UT Tyler, who could potentially meet the Pioneers in the championship game.
But it won’t be easy for either team to get there.
No. 22 Colorado Mesa won the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference regular season title but was upset in the RMAC Tournament Championship game by six-seed UCCS,63-61. That Mavericks loss likely took them from a top-3 seed to the fourth seed to set up a potential TWU matchup in the semifinals.
Speaking of UCCS. The Mountain Lions enter the tournament as one of the biggest Cinderella stories of the field. After a 19-11 season and sixth-place finish in the RMAC, the team upset Adams State in the first round and then ended No. 2 seed Western Colorado’s season with a 69-55 win where they made 12 3-pointers. Western Colorado was left out of the tournament despite a 21-8 record.
UCCS now faces a D2 championship darkhorse, Lubbock Christian in a rematch of a Nov. 16 game where LCU won 78-56. If LCU gets past the Mountain Lions, that would set up one of the best games of any regional semifinal this weekend, a rematch of a 53-50 LCU win over UT Tyler in December.
