About Each NE10 Team That’s Moving On
Nine Northeast-10 Conference teams heard their names called during Sunday's selection shows - five women's teams and four men's squads.
Women
Bentley (30-1)
No. 1 seed in the East Region (will host)
Top-seeded Bentley entered the final of the 2025 NE10 Women’s Basketball Championship looking for a 26th consecutive win in 2025, the third four-peat in the team’s history at the tournament, a 24th title overall and its 100th win all-time in the NE10 postseason.
The Falcons delivered, defeating the No. 6 seed, Assumption, 64-54 at home in Waltham, Massachusetts.
Though Bentley was down by seven points after the opening quarter, the Falcons outscored their opponents 17-6 in the second quarter to secure a lead they’d never give up.
Bentley now is 30-1 on the year, with the lone loss coming to Adelphi on Nov. 20 (59-55).
As the top seed in the East Region, Bentley will get to play host. This will be the Falcons' record 39th appearance in the Division II tournament.
Opponent: No. 8 New Haven (17-10); March 14 at 5 p.m. Eastern
Last Year’s NCAA Tournament: In 2024, Bentley picked up a first-round win over Mercy (63-50) and then fell to Jefferson in the second round (68-50).
Saint Anselm (17-9)
No. 4 seed in the East Region
The top five teams from the regular-season NE10 standings advanced to the NCAA Tournament, including Saint Anselm, which finish second this year behind Bentley but then was upset by Adelphi in the quarterfinals of the NE10 Women’s Basketball Championship.
The Hawks will be making their 10th appearance in the national tournament, though it will be their first since 2020.
In their opening game, they’ll face fellow NE10 team, Southern Connecticut State. It’ll be the first meeting between the two in the NCAA Tournament, but they’ve already met twice this season, with Saint Anselm winning both contests.
The winner this time will advance to face either Bentley or New Haven in an all-NE10 second round matchup.
Opponent: No. 5 Southern Connecticut State (19-10); March 14 at TBD
Last Year’s NCAA Tournament: N/A. Saint Anselm’s last appearance would’ve been 2020, but the tournament was canceled due to COVID-19.
Southern Connecticut State (19-10)
No. 5 seed in the East Region
Southern Connecticut State is coming off a semifinal appearance in the 2025 NE10 Women’s Basketball Championship, a run that ended at the hands of eventual champion – for the fourth consecutive year – Bentley, 75-55.
SCSU is no stranger to the NCAA Tournament but hasn’t been there since 2018.
The Owls reached the Final Four in 1983, then didn’t return to the tournament until 2003. Additional appearances came in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2012 and 2018, including being among the last 16 teams in 2006 and then winning the Division II women’s national championship in 2007, topping Florida Gulf Coast 61-45.
Opponent: No. 4 St. Anselm (17-9); March 14 at TBD
Last Year’s NCAA Tournament: N/A. Last appearance was 2018 (see above).
Assumption (19-13)
No. 6 seed in the East Region
The Assumption women’s basketball team made an admirable run through the recent NE10 conference tournament, but beating Bentley is a tough task – one that has only happened once this season overall – and hasn’t happened in the tournament in some time, as the Falcons’ win Sunday (64-54) was their fourth consecutive title.
This year marked the Greyhounds’ first trip to the final since the 2012-2013 season, and they’ll be looking to continue that momentum against Holy Family in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday.
Holy Family earned an automatic bid as the winner of the 2025 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship, defeating Jefferson 77-68 to win the event for the first time.
Opponent: No. 3 Holy Family (24-6); March 14 at noon Eastern
Last Year’s NCAA Tournament: Assumption’s run in the 2024 NCAA Tournament included a first-round win over Franklin Pierce (58-43) and a second-round loss to Daemen (68-58).
New Haven (17-10)
No. 8 seed in the East Region
New Haven finished third in the NE10 standings this year, which earned the Chargers a first-round bye for the conference tournament. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to capitalize on the opportunity and suffered a 57-54 overtime loss to eventual runner-up Assumption.
On the plus side, the loss didn’t affect New Haven’s chances of making the NCAA Tournament.
The downside, however, is that the Chargers now must face their conference foes – the Bentley Falcons – in the opening round. At Bentley.
Opponent: No. 1 Bentley (30-1); March 14 at 5 p.m. Eastern
Last Year’s NCAA Tournament: N/A. This will be New Haven’s first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 2015. That year, the Chargers won three games and advanced to the national quarterfinals, where they lost to California Baptist.
Men
Adelphi (26-7)
No. 2 seed in East Region
Adelphi won the NE10 men’s regular-season title, the school’s first since the 2011-2012 season, and is enjoying its first 25-win season under 11th-year head coach Dave Duke.
In the recent NE10 Men’s Basketball Championship, the Panthers earned a quarterfinal win over Saint Michael’s (85-77) but were upset by Pace in the semifinals, a 72-68 overtime battle.
Opponent: Dominican University of New York (20-8); March 15 at noon Eastern
Last Year’s NCAA Tournament: N/A. The last time Adelphi advanced to the NCAA Tournament was 2012.
Southern New Hampshire (21-8)
No. 3 seed in East Region
SNHU won its second consecutive NE10 Men’s Basketball Championship, this time defeating Pace in an overtime, 72-71. The Penmen became the tournament’s seventh repeat champion and first since 2008.
Southern New Hampshire now has won 12 of its last 14 games.
In the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on March 15, the Penmen will take on NE10 rival Assumption, which earned the No. 6 seed in the region. Assumption is coming off a loss to Pace in the quarterfinals of the 2025 NE10 Men’s Basketball Championship.
Opponent: Assumption (19-9); March 15 at 2:30 p.m. Eastern
Last Year’s NCAA Tournament: In 2024, the SNHU men advanced to the national quarterfinals. The Penmen beat Bloomfield (75-70), Post (69-64) and Saint Michael’s (73-61), before falling to eventual runner-up Nova Southeastern (68-60).
Pace (24-7)
No. 4 seed in East Region
Pace had some close calls in the recent NE10 Men’s Basketball Championship, narrowly escaping with wins over Assumption (74-72) and top-seeded Adelphi (72-68), before seeing its title dreams come to an end with an overtime buzzer-beater by Southern New Hampshire (72-71).
This is new life for the Setters, however, who need to erase the memory of Saturday’s loss to SNHU and look ahead to improving on a lopsided first-round loss in its last NCAA Tournament appearance in 2023.
Opponent: St. Thomas Aquinas (23-9); March 15 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern
Last Year’s NCAA Tournament: N/A. Pace did not qualify for the tournament last year. The last appearance for the Setters was 2023, when they got bounced from the first round by New Haven, 83-57.
Assumption (19-9)
No. 6 seed in East Region
Assumption’s return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in over a decade will begin with a showdown with conference rival Southern New Hampshire, which won its second consecutive NE10 Men’s Basketball Championship on Saturday.
The two squads already met twice this season, with SNHU winning both contests. The second was a two-overtime 83-82 battle in New Hampshire. Since 1980, Assumption is 13-32 against the Penmen.
In this year’s conference tournament, Assumption lost to Pace in the quarterfinals, 74-72.
Opponent: Southern New Hampshire (21-8); March 15 at 2:30 p.m. Eastern
Last Year’s NCAA Tournament: N/A. The last time Assumption appeared in the NCAA Tournament was 2013.
