Here are the five teams with the best chance to become the 2025 Division II women's basketball champions.
1. Texas Woman's Basketball, No. 1 Seed
- It's no surprise that the No. 1 overall seed has the best chances to win it all. Obviously, seeding doesn't matter once it's time to play the game, but you can not ignore what the Pioneers have done all season.
- TWU finished the season with a 31-1 record, including an LSC title to head into the tournament as the outright No. 1, meaning they are currently the best team, at least ranking-wise.
- Texas Woman's basketball has played great as a team throughout the entire season. Although they were not always the No. 1 team, with their grit, they match up well against anyone and look to avenge the championship game loss last year against Minnesota State.
2. Grand Valley State Basketball, No. 1 Seed
- The Lakers are another team who may arguably be the best team in Division II women's basketball.
- It comes to a point where you think there is now why that this is not the year, Grand Valley State women's basketball finally wins the national championship, especially with them being at the No. 1 spot for majority of the season and blowing out its opponents left and right.
- Winning a national championship has been the only thing that haunts the Lakers, so with the team winning its fourth straight conference title, it could be the light that GVSU needs to finally get over the hump.
3. Cal-State Dominguez Hills Basketball, No. 1 Seed
- Another team that deserves the right to genuinely feel as if it is the best and has a great chance at winning a title is Cal-State Dominguez Hills women's basketball.
- For most of the year, the Toros separated themselves from others by going undefeated until the last home game of the regular season. They easily recovered with two large-margin victories to end the regular season and a CCAA conference title.
- Believe it or not, the first loss coming on senior day could be a blessing in disguise. Teams would rather lose their first game toward the end of the regular season than in the NCAA tournament, where one loss is all it takes to finish a season.
4. Pittsburg State Basketball, No. 1 Seed
- After being locked into that No. 5 ranking for most of the season, Pittsburg State women's basketball found themselves stumbling toward the finish line a bit to end the regular season.
- However, in the MIAA conference championships, they showed that when the game matters most, there is a good chance that they will win.
- A great example of this is Fort Hays State defeated Pittsburg State at the end of February by 16 points, but that would be avenged when they beat the Tigers in the championship game to win the conference. With a big win like that, there should not be a doubt that Pittsburg State could win it all.
5. UT Tyler Basketball, No. 3 Seed
- When you own a win over the overall No. 1 seed and are the only team they have lost to, of course, people are going to believe you can win it all.
- Aside from delivering the sole loss to Texas Woman's, the Patriots have had a great season overall, finishing 25-4. However, they will not have the best momentum going into the NCAA tournament, as they lost the last two games to TWU and UT Kingsville in the first round of the conference tournament.
- However, with the team getting multiple days off after not winning the conference championship and the tournament not starting until March 17th, it could just be what UT Tyler women's basketball needs to make a deep run.
