March is the start of Spring and that means flowers begin to blossom and just like that, college teams all over the country hoping are hoping their dreams can bloom en route to a national championship.

From practices and film sessions to the regular season and conference championships, the goal is to be selected to compete in the division NCAA tournament.

However, in this tournament, with a single elimination format, anything can happen, and all the regular records and accomplishments seem to matter less.

These five teams have the best chances to run the gauntlet and win a national championship.

1. Daemen Basketball, No. 1 Seed

  • Starting with the obvious choice and overall No. 1 seed in the tournament, Daemen men's basketball is the only team to finish the season undefeated, gaining victories throughout the year.
  • The Wildcats proved they were the best team after being the former No. 1 for most of the season; Washburn suffered back-to-back losses on Feb. 13 and Feb. 15, and
  • Daemen would soon take over the top spot.

On Sunday, March 8th, the Wildcats won the East Coast Conference against St. Thomas Aquinas, 88-80.

2. Alabama-Huntsville Basketball, No. 2 Seed

  • The Chargers have been a team to watch since the beginning of the season. Their only loss came in the first game of the season against No. 2 Nova Southeastern, a 105-104 overtime thriller.
  • Of course, both teams have been in a completely different place since that game, but the fact that they only lost by two points shows that they have what it takes to beat anyone.
  • Alabama Huntsville men's basketball was the No. 1 seed in the Gulf South and defeated a big-time opponent in Valdosta State to win the conference.

3. Lincoln Memorial Basketball, No. 4 Seed

  • This team has been the perfect example of someone getting hot at the right time. Although they fell short in their conference tournament to Lenoir-Rhyne in the title game, don't be surprised if the Railsplitters make a deep run.
  • Lincoln Memorial men's basketball bounced up and down in the top ten many times due to losses but always bounced back in the big games.
  • Of course, when you lose in the NCAA tournament, there is no next game, but all the great teams truly know what is at stake, and the Railsplitters should be taken seriously as one of those teams.

4. Dallas Baptist Basketball, No. 1 Seed

  • DBU men's basketball is another team that spent most of the season looking to reach the top five and ten.
  • The Patriots made the top five in the last couple of rankings on the season but lost to Lubbock Christian.
  • That would be until Dallas Baptist got its revenge by defeating Lubbock Christian in the Lone Star Conference championship game. This was the first conference title in program history, and that can be the momentum needed to continue making history.

5. Colorado School Of Mines Basketball

  • Last but not least, Colorado School of Mines basketball is one of the teams that could be cutting down nets this month.
  • Even though the Miners had some slip-ups in the regular season, they easily won the RMAC after blowing out Regis in the championship game.
  • The team has shown the potential all year to be one of the best teams in the division, and what better way to prove it than in the big dance?
