UConn Hockey Team Eyes Program's First Men's NCAA Tournament Appearance
UConn is 11-2-3 since the calendar flip and currently sits eighth in the Pairwise, putting the Huskies on the brink of their first NCAA tournament berth.

UConn entered this season unranked and was picked to finish eighth in the Hockey East preseason poll.
The Huskies were coming off a sub-.500 2023-24 season (15-19-2) and saw multiple key players transfer out, including Matthew Wood (NSH) and goaltender Arsenii Sergeev (CGY).

However, as the calendar flips to March, UConn is not only one of the top teams in its conference, but one of the best in the country.
The Huskies are 19-10-4, they’re coming off a home-and-home sweep of Northeastern and they’re unbeaten over their past six (5-0-1). UConn is also 11-2-3 since the calendar flipped to 2025 and sits fourth in Hockey East with 37 points.

As the final week of the regular season is here, UConn sits eighth in the Pairwise. The Huskies are on the verge of clinching their first NCAA tournament appearance in program history and were also ranked eighth in Monday’s USCHO Poll. Although the Pairwise is what matters most.
So what’s been working in Storrs?
The Huskies have out-scored their opponents 110-84 and junior goaltender Tyler Muszelik (FLA) has especially been good. The New Hampshire transfer has made 479 of a possible 524 saves and boasts a .914 save percentage and 2.26 GAA. Freshman Callum Tung has also been good when called upon and earned the win against Northeastern last Friday.
Joey Muldowney (SJS), Jake Richard (BUF) and Hudson Schandor have formed a dynamic top line and all three have surpassed the 30-point mark. Muldowney has an eight-game point streak, potting 8-5-13 in the stretch, and Richard has points in nine straight – including five goals over his past four games.
What else is there to say... Jake Richard with a BEAUTIFUL GOAL!!!!

Junior Ryan Tattle has also lit the lamp 17 times – which ranks second on Mike Cavanaugh’s club – and UConn has benefitted from a talented freshmen class too.
UConn’s 110 goals are tied for 14th in the NCAA and its power play (24.5%) is tied for 12th. The Huskies also lead the nation with nine short-handed goals, three of which have been scored by Tattle.
The Huskies close out the regular season at Vermont on March 6. If the season were to end today UConn would host a quarterfinal playoff game as the No. 4 seed. A fifth-place finish still earns a first-round bye as well.
Hockey East has five of the top eight teams in the Pairwise and eight teams inside the top 20.
