2025 NCWWC Team Race

Iowa (D1) is the overwhelming favorite to win the team title. The Hawkeyes were in a nail-biter with North Central (D3) last year, with the outcome determined in the final match. 

Clarissa Chun added two of the best wrestlers in the world to her line-up: Macey Kilty (145) and Kennedy Blades (160). Kilty is a two-time Senior World medalist, and Blades is a 2024 Olympic silver medalist. That's on top of returning national champions Emilie Gonzalez (110), Ava Bayless (117), and Kylie Welker (180) and returning national finalists Sterling Dias (103), Brianna Gonzalez (117), Nanea Estrella (138), and Jaycee Foeller (207).

North Central qualified 15 wrestlers and is in the best position to finish second. Returning national champion Amani Jones leads a deep team that fell to Iowa 28-13 at the 2025 National Duals in January. 

Grand Valley State finished 1.5 points behind North Central at regionals and will make noise in the program's first season. U23 World champion Sage Mortimer (110) and returning national champion Katie Lange (138) are seeded first and will need help from the rest of the team to make a trophy run. 

McKendree bolstered its lineup from last season's fourth-place finish. Freshmen Gabrielle Tedesco (103) and Haylie Jaffe (138) have looked impressive, and veterans Kaylynn Albrecht (160) and Tristan Kelly (207) are expected to reach the finals. 

King entered the season with promise but stumbled late in the season. The Tornado finished third at regionals but has enough high-end firepower to secure a trophy with the right tournament. Samara Chavez (110), Clare Booe (117), Montana DeLawder (124), and Aine Drury (145) could all reach the finals.

Tournament Format
The National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championships will have 32 wrestlers per bracket compared to 24 last year. 

Each team can qualify up to 15 wrestlers, but only one at each weight can score. If a team has two wrestlers in the finals (it has happened before), then only the champion will score. However, this can prevent another team from earning placement points. 

Bonus points cannot be scored if two wrestlers from the same team face each other. This prevents a coach from fixing matches to get additional team points. Below is a breakdown of how tournament scoring works.

Women's college wrestling uses freestyle rules, so no major decisions exist.
