NCAA Division I Women's College Basketball Rankings: Texas WBB Take Over
NCAA Division I Women's College Basketball Rankings: Texas WBB Take Over
View how much the rankings change, as a new No. 1 team has been named for the third time in three weeks.
Any time the No. 1 team gets knocked off, it is going to be considered an exciting week of college basketball.
That is exactly what happened on Sunday when Notre Dame was upset by No. 13 NC State. In that game, Aziaha James and Zoe Brooks stole the show for the Wolfpack and were the spearheads of the win.
Brooks scored her career-high 33 points and went a perfect 14-14 from the free-throw line in the double-overtime win. It was the team's first home win over a No. 1 team since 1978.
The Longhorns Take Over
- Texas women's basketball is the newest team to reach No. 1 in the AP poll for the first time in 21 years.
- This is the third time a different team has reached the top spot in three weeks.
- The Longhorns were not in action last week, but they will play their first game against Georgia as the top team on Monday.
Teams 4-7 Stay In Tact
- In another week with a No. 1 team change, there was at least some consistency in the rankings.
- USC women's basketball won both games this past week over Michigan State and Illinois as they prepare for part two of its rivalry with UCLA this Saturday. This time, the Bruins will be home.
- UConn women's basketball is still riding high on momentum, with two expected, lopsided wins over Seton Hall and Butler.
- South Carolina and LSU both defeated conference opponents, with the Tigers claiming a road victory over No. 14 Kentucky.
New Teams In The Top Ten
- NC State women's basketball moves into the top ten after their biggest win of the season on Sunday. The Wolfpack have two more regular season games against Wake Forest and SMU.
- In-state rival North Carolina, which beat the Wolfpack on Feb. 16, has also moved up. They are one spot ahead of NC State at No. 8.
- Tennessee moves up four spots and is just outside the ten spots as TCU stays in the spot after defeating Arizona State on the road and blowing out No. 17 West Virginia.
