While the season is long, with the Diamond League, the inaugural Grand Slam series, and the World Championships on the horizon, many notable athletes have opted to skip this competition. However, 400m specialist Alexis Holmes shared at the pre-meet press conference that the indoor season is essential for sharpening her skills for the outdoor events. She also expressed her goal of securing a spot on the team and aiming for the gold in Nanjing. Holmes has set her sights on breaking Sanya Richards-Ross’ 400m American record of 48.70.
Speaking of champions, Grant Holloway is currently on a winning streak. The 60m hurdles world record holder looks to continue his success, aiming for a spot at the World Championships and, ultimately, the gold. He also expressed his excitement for Team USA, saying, “We’re going to assemble the Avengers in Nanjing.”
As we approach the USATF Indoor Championships this weekend, all the events are set to be thrilling. However, here are a few to keep an eye on: the men's and women’s 60m hurdles, featuring Grant Holloway and Masai Russell, respectively; the men’s 400m with Quincy Wilson and Vernon Norwood, both of whom are known for their competitive edge and strong performances; and the women’s 3000m, where Nicki Hiltz and Shelby Houlihan will be battling it out for the top spot, just to name a few.
You can stream the races live on USATF.tv on Saturday (all day) and Sunday (10 a.m. - 1 p.m.). Additionally, NBC/Peacock will broadcast Sunday’s events from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.
