Around The A: Calgary Wranglers Add Tyson Barrie
The Calgary Flames have sent veteran defenseman Tyson Barrie to their AHL affiliate, the Calgary Wranglers, after he cleared waivers Friday.

The 33-year-old Barrie cleared NHL waivers Friday, allowing the Calgary Flames to assign him to their AHL affiliate. Last month he had spent a weekend with the Wranglers on a conditioning assignment, providing 1-2-3 in a two-game series against San Diego. Before that assignment, he had not dressed for a game with the Flames since Nov. 12. Barrie's last extended AHL stint came in 2012-13 when he was a Colorado Avalanche prospect. He has played 822 NHL games (110-398-508) for Colorado, Toronto, Edmonton, and Nashville along with the Flames. He ended up with the Flames after they signed him Oct. 3, but he has only appeared in 13 games.
Prospect Ilya Solovyov was recalled to the Flames on Tuesday. The 24-year-old has spent parts of four seasons in the AHL as a Flames prospect and has played 213 games.
The Wranglers are 29-15-4-1, but a five-game slide has allowed the Ontario Reign to pass them for the Western Conference lead by point percentage (.670-.643). The Reign came to Scotiabank Saddledome and took a pair of overtime wins last weekend. A trip to Coachella Valley on Saturday begins a three-game Southern California swing for the Wranglers, who will visit Ontario on Sunday and San Diego next Wednesday.
They then have a pair of two-game home sets against Abbotsford and Coachella Valley.
