No. 20 Stanford stunned No. 1 Texas with a 9-5 victory, handing the Longhorns their first loss of the 2025 season at the Hillenbrand Invitational.

The Cardinal's offense, led by Allie Clements, who hit two two-run home runs and drove in four RBIs, capitalized on key moments to break open the game. 

After Texas tied the score 4-4 in the 5th, Stanford responded with a three-run homer from Joie Economides in the 6th, giving them a commanding 7-4 lead. 

Alyssa Houston, who entered in relief after the first inning, delivered a solid 6.1 innings, striking out seven and holding the Longhorns to three earned runs. 

Texas had multiple opportunities to mount a comeback but ultimately fell short despite loading the bases in the 7th.

Stanford Upset Texas Softball

Final: Stanford 9, Texas 5

No. 20 Stanford beat No. 1 Texas by four runs, dealing the Longhorns their first loss of the 2025 season. It is certainly one of the biggest upsets to take place in the top 25 this year. 

Stanford's Allie Clements hit two, two-run home runs, garnering 4 RBI. 

Joie Economides broke it open for the Cardinal in the 6th inning with a three-run homer. Texas had tied it up 4-4 prior to that. 

Cardinal pitcher Alyssa Houston relieved Zoe Prystajko halfway through the 1st inning and pitched the rest of the game. 

Houston had 6.1 IP, 3 ER and 7 Ks on the day.
