Oregon Softball Tops No. 6 Tennessee 1-0 On Wild Pitch In Extra Innings
No. 19 Oregon defeated No. 6 Tennessee 1-0 in extra innings at the 2025 Mary Nutter Classic. The game was scoreless through nearly eight innings.

No. 19 Oregon defeated No. 6 Tennessee in a dramatic extra-inning contest, winning 1-0 on a wild pitch from Karlyn Pickens in the bottom of the eighth. This was the Lady Vols first game at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic 2025, and Oregon's second game of the day.

Tennessee loaded the bases in the bottom of the 8th inning in an attempt to set up a double-play but saw the ball get away on the second pitch of the next at-bat, allowing Oregon's runner on third to score the game-winning run.
Pickens was dominant throughout, striking out 13 and giving up just one hit over 7.1 innings, while Oregon's Lyndsey Grein earned the win in relief with 5 strikeouts.
Both teams struggled offensively, with Tennessee managing only three hits. This is only the second loss of the season for the Lady Vols.
Oregon Wins On Wild Pitch!

Oregon defeated No. 6 Tennessee Lady Vols on a wild pitch from Karlyn Pickens that got away from the catcher.
Tennessee made the choice to load the bases to up their chances of running a double-play to extend the game, but the ball did not find the catcher's mitt on the second pitch of the next at-bat.
Tennessee pitcher Karlyn Pickens looked like her All-American self and had an extraordinary day on the mound. Pickens pitched 7.1 innings, giving up one hit and an unearned run from an extra-innings baserunner.
Pickens had 13 Ks and pitched the complete game.
The Lady Vols had three total hits while Oregon had one hit.
