Oregon Softball Answered Every Cal Go-ahead Run In Mary Nutter Classic Win

No. 19 Oregon Softball beat former conference rival California at the 2025 Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic on Feb. 20.

Lagi Quiroga hit a home run in the first at-bat of the game as Cal went on to take a 2-0 lead against its former Pac-12 rival in No. 19 Oregon on Feb. 20 at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. 

But the entire afternoon saw the Ducks answer back. Oregon scored three runs in the first and two more in the third after Cal regained the lead to win 5-4. 

Oregon, has looked like the best team in the Big Ten at times during 11-1 start to the season, but Cal was one of their toughest tests yet. Now the Ducks face top-10 ranked Tennessee at 3:30 p.m. ET today.

Oregon Hangs On To Beat Cal 5-4

The Ducks cruised in the final two innings to win their first game of the Mary Nutter Classic. 

Lyndsey Grein closed out the game allowing one a hit, a double in the 9th, over the sixth and seventh. 

Laqi Quiroga hit that double for Cal, her second hit of the game, but was stranded on second.

Oregon had two on and one out, but failed to score a run as pitcher Miranda De Nava got two pop-ups to end the inning. 

On to the sixth!

Oregon SB Threatening Again; Cal 4, Oregon 5, B5

Ducks have two on and one out and looking to build on to its 1-run lead. 

Lyndsey Grein Works Quick 5th Inning; Cal 4, Oregon 5, T5

Lyndsey Grein worked a quick 1-2-3 inning as Oregon kept the Cal Bears bats quiet. Grein induced fly balls to left, right and center to get out of the inning. 

Ryann Orange's Day Is Done For Cal; Cal 4, Oregon 5, B4

Starter Ryann Orange is out for the Bears and Miranda De Nava is in the circle for Cal. 

Oregon put a runner on, but Cal and De Nava got out of the inning unscathed,. 

On to the the fifth!

Oregon Making Another Pitching Change; Cal 4, Oregon 5, T4

Leading 5-4, Oregon is sending its third pitcher to the circle with two runners on and two outs. Lyndsey Grein is in for the Ducks. 

Grein struck out the Bears star lead-off hitter Lagi Quiroga to end the frame. 

Alyssa Herrera Homers For Bears; Cal 4, Oregon 5, T4

The Bears cut the deficit to 1-run a 2-out solo shot by Alyssa Herrera. 

Cal has connected on three straight hits, including the home run, with two outs.

Paige Sinicki hit a 2-out triple that gave Oregon a 5-3 lead. 

On to the fourth inning!

Cal Softball Ties Game After Lead-off Single; Cal 3, Oregon 3, T3

Mika Lee singled and lead off the inning and Acacia Anders tied the game after another single with outs as Cal tied the game. 

Oregon is headed to the bullpen with Taylour Spencer replacing Elise Sokolsky in the circle.  

Spencer was a All-Pac-12 Freshman in 2024. 

Oregon got out of the inning and now will look to regain the lead.

Cal pitcher Ryann Orange walked batter, but was able to escape the inning clean as the Bears now go to the plate looking to tie the Ducks in the third. 

Oregon Softball Pitcher Elise Sokolsky Works 1-2-3 Inning; Cal 2, Oregon 3, T2

Elise Sokolsky worked a 1-2-3 inning and was added by a tremendous catch from center fielder Kedre Luschar to end the inning. 

Oregon Softball Takes Lead; Cal 2, Oregon 3, B1

Rylee McCoy hit a two-run home run after the Duck had already added a run in the inning to give the No. 19-ranked team a lead. McCoy's home run came with two outs in the inning.

Cal added two runs in the first inning with a home run and after a Kaylee Pond hit a single, advanced to second on a wild pitch and used a sac bunt and a sac fly to score another run.
