The league-leading Laval Rocket received more help Wednesday morning.

Defenseman David Reinbacher will join the Rocket following his assignment by the parent Montreal Canadiens. The 20-year-old, who was injured Sept. 28 in a preseason Canadiens game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, has not played this season after undergoing left-knee surgery. He resumed practice with the Canadiens on Jan. 27.

Montreal had big plans for Reinbacher, the fifth overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, before that injury. He had shown well during a late-season audition with the Rocket last spring in which he had 2-3-5 in 11 games and gained experience as Laval chased a berth in the Calder Cup Playoffs. Before coming to Laval last season, he had been in the Swiss National League with EHC Kloten, posting 1-10-11 in 35 games. He also represented Austria in Olympic qualification play last summer.

Laval hosts the Manitoba Moose at Place Bell on Wednesday night (7:00 p.m. ET), and the game can be seen on FloHockey. The Rocket (31-13-2-1) are coming off a 7-2 loss at Toronto on Monday afternoon, but they pace the AHL in wins and point percentage (.691). Wednesday night’s game starts a run of seven of nine games at Place Bell stretching into mid-March.

Reinbacher’s addition is a further boost for a Laval roster that lost defenseman Josh Jacobs to a season-ending left-knee injury in January.
