Veteran Forward Grigori Denisenko Off To The Milwaukee Admirals

The Milwaukee Admirals continue to gain strength as the AHL regular-season stretch drive approaches.

Forward Grigori Denisenko became the latest addition Tuesday afternoon after the parent Nashville Predators acquired him from the Vegas Golden Knights for future considerations.

Denisenko, a 24-year-old AHL All-Star with the Henderson Silver Knights, has 10-14-24 in 42 games and is another producer for a Milwaukee offense that has started to come alive recently. The Admirals (26-16-3-4) have 21 goals in winning five of their past six games, including a 5-1 victory at Manitoba on Monday afternoon. Their work has moved them into the Central Division lead, two points ahead of Texas, though the Stars do have four games in hand on them. After a trip to Chicago, the Admirals will host the Silver Knights this Friday and Saturday. Saturday's match-up is the FloHockey AHL Game of the Week (7:00 p.m. ET).

The Milwaukee roster had taken several hits after Nashville had promoted forwards Vinnie Hinostroza, Zach L’Heureux, and Fedor Svechkov earlier this season. With Nashville 18 points out of a playoff spot in the Western Conference, acquiring Denisenko provides some insurance for Milwaukee if the Predators opt to audition some of their prospects come March and April.

Following an 8-1-0-0 start, the Admirals had won just nine of their next 27 games (9-13-2-3) stretching into the middle of January. They have brought in veteran help in forwards Anders Bjork, Chase De Leo, and Scott Reedy to replenish their roster and are 9-2-1-1 since Jan. 19. Nashville also acquired defenseman Mark Friedman in a trade with the Vancouver Canucks on Feb. 7. The 29-year-old had played 20 games with the Abbotsford Canucks and was 1-5-6.

With Silver Knights eight points below the Pacific Division playoff line and ceding games to the two nearest teams that they are chasing, Bakersfield and Tucson, the move puts Denisenko in a position to showcase himself for a new contract this summer. He is in the final year of his two-year, one-way contract that he signed with the Florida Panthers in July 2023. The Golden Knights had acquired him on waivers before last season, but he only appeared in seven NHL games following that move. Taken 15th overall by Florida in the 2018 NHL Draft, Denisenko has played 33 NHL games with seven assists.

After coming to the Golden Knights organization last summer, Denisenko hit career bests in goals, assists, and points at the AHL level with a 20-36-56 season for the Silver Knights. He was selected for the AHL All-Star Challenge in both of his seasons with Henderson.
