The games this past week provided everything from top matchups, ranked teams getting upset, and statement wins from many programs.

No. 1 Auburn and No. 2 Alabama were the games with the most attraction. It was another chapter in the Iron Bowl rivalry between the two programs and the first-ever No.1 vs. No. 2 matchup in the SEC.

With how competitive the conference has been this season, with about half of the conference being ranked or formerly ranked, it is fitting that this year, the conference had a No. 1 vs. No. 2 game. Not to mention that it was also an in-state game between bitter rivals.

Big Upsets From Last Week

  • Kentucky men's basketball pulled off an "upset" over Tennessee after beating them for a second time this season, but the Wildcats got the job done at home. However, they would be upset by unranked Texas on the road, losing a tight one by four points.
  • St. John's MBB was also upset by unranked Villanova but gained a big win over Creighton on Sunday, 79-73; the Bluejays would lose to the two-time defending champion, the UConn Huskies.
  • Memphis men's basketball got the worst of things, dropping eight spots this week after losing to Wichita State.

Auburn Proves They Are The Best Team

  • In the No. 1 vs. No. 2 game, between Auburn men's basketball and Alabama men's basketball, the Tigers showed why they are the best team in the country after remaining No. 1, although they lost the week before Florida.
  • During the game, Auburn never trailed as they came out all over Alabama after the opening tip.
  • The way the Tigers took control of the game and won undoubtedly showed fans worldwide that they were still the best team.
  • Head Coach Bruce Pearl is now 2-0 in first-team vs. second-team games. The first came in 2008 when he was the head coach of Tennessee and defeated the Memphis Tigers, which John Calipari then coached.

Many Teams Climbing Their Way Up

  • Florida men's basketball kept up the great play in the conference after defeating No. 1 Auburn on Feb. 8. They then won by double digits over No. 22 Mississippi State men's basketball and blew out South Carolina, hoping to eventually take that No. 1 spot.
  • Missouri is also attempting to keep pace with the five teams ahead of them in the rankings as they move up six total spots.
  • Michigan men's basketball jumped eight spots to reach the top 15.
  • Clemson had two blowout wins over ACC opponents, while Louisville joined the Tigers and Duke as the conference's three-ranked teams.
  • Former No. 3, Iowa State is starting to move back up as they are now at No. 8.
