The Nebraska softball team opened the 2025 season with three consecutive wins, before running into a couple of ranked buzzsaws to close out the opening weekend of play.

The Cornhuskers rebounded with five wins at the Troy Cox Classic in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and they’re now ready to take their talents west to the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, where they’ll play six games, including a Feb. 23 showdown with Utah.

Nebraska and Utah will help usher out the 2025 event. Their meeting will begin at 2 p.m. Eastern as part of an abbreviated final day of competition at this year’s Mary Nutter.

The 2025 edition of the Mary Nutter is taking place at the Big League Dreams Complex in Cathedral City, California, from Feb. 20-23.

Nebraska, ranked 16th in the ESPN.com/USA Softball preseason poll, started the new season at the NFCA Leadoff Classic and went 3-2. The mediocre start saw them drop to No. 17 in the first official poll of the year.

After winning their first three games, the Huskers fell to No. 10 Texas Tech and No. 24 Mississippi State.

Last year, Nebraska was 30-23 overall after entering the year very excited about pitcher Jordy Bahl, who transferred in from Oklahoma for the 2024 season. Unfortunately, she suffered a season-ending ACL injury in her first game with the Huskers.

Bahl is back in action and ready to lead Nebraska in 2025. She already made an impact, as she was the winning pitcher in her team’s season-opening win over No. 5 Tennessee. She also had a no-hitter against Northern Colorado on Feb. 15, helping improve here record this year to 3-1.

Utah kicked off its 2025 season at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Arizona, going 3-2. The Utes also made a stop at the Fresno State Kickoff Classic in Fresno, California, and heading into the last game at the event, Utah is 4-6 on the season.

Nebraska competed in the Mary Nutter last year, going 2-3. Utah also participated and posted a 3-2 record.

The 2025 Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic will feature 31 teams, headlined by Tennessee, Nebraska and Utah.

About Big League Dreams Cathedral City

The Big League Dreams Sports Parks are scattered throughout the United States and provide recreational and tournament players of all ages the chance to compete on world-class fields, often built as replicas of famous stadiums from the storied history of Major League Baseball.

Along with the nostalgic fields, the Big League Dreams venues include a restaurant and bar, batting cages, play area for children, stadium seating and space for other sports (hockey, soccer, sand volleyball), events and competitions.

Big League Dreams Cathedral City was the first of the eight BLD properties to open, doing so in 1998. The park includes five fields. Among them, Boston’s Fenway Park, Chicago’s Wrigley Field and New York’s Yankee Stadium.
