Louisville Tames Arizona Wildcats With 13-1 Win At College Showdown
Louisville scored 13 runs across two innings to defeat Arizona 13-1 at 2025 Shriners Children’s College Showdown at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

The Louisville baseball team used an eight-run fifth inning to pull away from Arizona and pick up a second win in three games at the 2025 Shriners Children’s College Showdown, defeating the Wildcats 13-1.
The Cardinals added five runs in the eighth inning Sunday at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, activating the 10-run rule, which ultimately ended the game early when Arizona failed to score in the bottom half of the eighth.
The lone bright spot for Arizona was a first-inning home run.
The Shriners Children’s College Showdown again is being held at Globe Life Field, home of the world champion Texas Rangers, as part of three exciting weekends of college baseball in Texas.

The unranked Cardinals tested themselves with contests against three ranked opponents, and the result was a 2-1 record to start the new campaign.
Louisville upset No. 19 Texas on Friday (4-3) but fell to No. 17 Oklahoma State on Saturday (12-3).
In the win over Arizona, the Cardinals had 17 hits, 16 of which were singles. The lone extra-base hit was a two-run triple by senior Eddie King Jr. in the explosive fifth inning.
Six Louisville players had multiple hits in the contest, with King, Matt Klein and Zion Rose each collecting three. King had a team-best three RBIs and a run scored.
Louisville sent four pitchers to the mound to face the Wildcats, with junior right-hander Peter Michael making his first start for Louisville after transferring from Northwestern.
Michael left the game after 4 2/3 innings and did not get a decision. He was great, though, giving up one run on one hit (a first-inning home run), striking out five and walking three.
Sophomore left-hander Colton Hartman was the first to arrive in relief, and he earned the victory.
Arizona (0-3) is the only one of the six teams to go winless during the opening weekend of the 2025 College Baseball Showdown.
Ranked No. 21 in the D1Baseball Preseason Top 25 Rankings, the Wildcats lost to Ole Miss on Friday (2-1) and No. 15 Clemson on Saturday (16-5).
Against Louisville on Sunday, the only hit for Arizona was the two-out first-inning blast to right field by junior infielder Mason White, giving the Wildcats a 1-0 advantage.
It was his second solo home run of the 2025 Shriners Children's College Showdown.
Seven Arizona pitchers saw action Sunday, with junior right-hander Michael Hiker Jr. taking the loss. He lasted just 2/3 of an inning, giving up eight runs on seven hits.
The starting pitcher for Arizona was freshman right-hander Smith Bailey, who was brilliant across four innings. He only threw 53 pitches, giving up three hits and no runs. He struck out five. He threw 40 strikes.
The Arizona baseball team has joined a new conference for 2025, and a strong start to the new campaign would’ve been a nice warning to the members of the Big 12 that the Wildcats are on the way.
Up next for the Wildcats is a meeting with New Mexico on Tuesday afternoon. Louisville will take on Xavier at home on Wednesday afternoon.
The schedule in Arlington this month includes the Shriners Children’s College Showdown (Feb. 14-16), Amegy Bank College Baseball Series presented by Kubota Weekend 2 (Feb. 21-23) and Amegy Bank College Baseball Series presented by Kubota Weekend 3 (Feb. 28-March 2).
There also will be midweek games on Feb. 18, Feb. 19, Feb. 26 and March 5.

Where Is The 2025 College Baseball Showdown?
The Shriners Children’s College Showdown and two-weekend Amegy Bank College Baseball Series presented by Kubota will take place at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, and feature some of the top teams in the nation.
The 2025 season will mark the fifth consecutive year of college baseball at Globe Life Field – home of the world champion Texas Rangers – and the second straight year the action will span three weekends.
When Is The College Baseball Showdown?
The first weekend of the festivities, the Shriners Children’s College Showdown, will begin on Friday, Feb. 14 and will run through Feb. 16.
The following two weeks of action, the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series, will take place Feb. 21-23 and Feb. 28-March 2.
To keep the momentum going between the weekends, the series also will include four midweek games at Globe Life Field. Those contests will take place Feb. 18, Feb. 19, Feb. 26 and March 5.

About Louisville Baseball
The Southeastern Conference has turned into a dominant force in college baseball, but the ACC is close behind with standouts Virginia, North Carolina and Florida State all ranked among the top 10 teams in the nation.
Louisville may be overshadowed by those powerful teams, but playing against top-tier talent should only help make the Cardinals better.
Last year, they finished fourth among the seven teams in the ACC’s Atlantic Division. They were picked to finish ninth this year in the new-look 16-team conference.
Louisville’s overall record in 2024 was 32-24, which included a 16-14 mark in conference action. The Cardinals were eliminated from the ACC Baseball Championship with consecutive losses to Miami and Clemson.
About Arizona Baseball
With the Pac-12 imploding, Arizona made sure to make one final statement before departing for the Big 12.
The Wildcats finished the 2024 campaign with a 36-23 overall record and 20-10 mark in their final year of Pac-12 competition.
They won the Pac-12 regular-season title and went on to win the Pac-12 Tournament. The latter earned them the conference’s automatic bid to the Division I Baseball Championship.
Despite the run of success, Arizona saw its fourth consecutive appearance in the 64-team national tournament end with consecutive losses to Grand Canyon and Dallas Baptist in the Tucson NCAA Regional.
Perhaps 2025 is meant to be greener pastures, new challenges and a new domain to conquer.
Obviously, a season-opening loss is a knock at the team’s confidence, but losing to an SEC team is nothing to be ashamed about. After all, all of the SEC teams made the D1Baseball Preseason Top 25 Rankings or received votes. That’s impressive.
