It took No. 17 Oklahoma State four innings to record a hit against Louisville at the 2025 Shriners Children’s College Showdown, but once the Cowboys were able to break through, they never looked back.

OSU broke open the game with four runs in the fourth inning and continued the onslaught with runs in each inning that followed at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

The final score was 12-3, netting the Cowboys their first win of the 2025 season and 16th win all-time at Globe Life Field.

The Shriners Children’s College Showdown again is being held at Globe Life Field, home of the world champion Texas Rangers, as part of three exciting weekends of college baseball in Texas.

Down 3-0 after three and a half innings, Oklahoma State was able to load the bases with no outs in the bottom of the fourth, then senior first baseman Colin Brueggemann delivered a first-pitch grand slam to right field to put the Cowboys ahead 4-3.

OSU (1-1) added a run in the fifth inning, four in the sixth, one in the seventh and two in the eighth to pull away from the Cardinals.

The Cowboys collected 13 hits, including three home runs in the victory.

Starting pitcher Harrison Bodendorf earned the win for OSU. He went five innings, giving up three runs on four hits, while striking out six and walking two. Three Oklahoma State pitchers saw action in the game.

At the plate, three Cowboys recorded more than one hit, with junior Jayson Jones leading the way with three. He was 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs.

The win was redemption for Oklahoma State, which lost its season opener Friday to Clemson, 6-5.

Louisville (1-1) entered Saturday’s contest with OSU looking for back-to-back wins over ranked opponents to start the 2025 season. The Cardinals rallied in the final innings Friday to steal a 4-3 win over No. 19 Texas, but they didn’t have the same luck against the Cowboys.

The Cardinals plated two runs in the third inning against OSU and added one more in the fourth with a triple and a base hit, but that’s where the momentum ended. Louisville was held scoreless for the final five innings.

Five Cardinals recorded one hit apiece in the loss.

Sophomore right-hander Parker Detmers took the loss for Louisville. He pitched three innings, giving up four runs on three hits, while striking out three, walking two and hitting one batter.

Up next for Louisville at the Shriners Children’s College Showdown is a brunch battle with Arizona on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. Eastern.

Oklahoma State will be back in action Sunday night at 7:30 p.m. EST to face Texas in the final game of the weekend at Globe Life Field.

The schedule includes the Shriners Children’s College Showdown (Feb. 14-16), Amegy Bank College Baseball Series presented by Kubota Weekend 2 (Feb. 21-23) and Amegy Bank College Baseball Series presented by Kubota Weekend 3 (Feb. 28-March 2).

There also will be midweek games on Feb. 18, Feb. 19, Feb. 26 and March 5.

The Cardinals were down 2-0 after eight innings and rallied for two runs in the ninth and two in the 10th inning to pull out the season-opening win.

About Louisville Baseball

Louisville also plays in one of the dominant conferences in the country, the Atlantic Coast Conference, and the Cardinals sometimes struggle to keep up with the likes of Virginia, North Carolina and Florida State, which all are ranked among the top 10 teams in the nation.

The Cardinals finished fourth last year among the seven teams in the ACC’s Atlantic Division. They were picked to finish ninth this year in the new-look 16-team conference.

Louisville’s overall record in 2024 was 32-24, which included a 16-14 mark in conference action. The Cardinals were bounced from the ACC Baseball Championship with consecutive losses to Miami and Clemson.

About Oklahoma State Baseball

Oklahoma State was 42-19 last year, including a 19-9 performance in Big 12 play, which landed the Cowboys between Oklahoma and Texas in the Big 12 standings.

The good news for OSU is that those two pesky foes have since moved on, packing up and heading to the powerful Southeastern Conference.

The Cowboys already proved they’re ready to take over by defeating Oklahoma to win the 2024 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship. It was the Cowboys’ fourth Big 12 title (2004, 2017, 2019, 2024) and earned them the conference’s automatic bid for the 2024 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship.

OSU picked up a pair of wins in the NCAA Stillwater Regional, before ultimately losing its best-of-three series to Florida, 2-1, leaving the Cowboys one win shy of reaching the super-regional round.

Heading into the 2025 campaign, Oklahoma State got the nod as the preseason favorite in the Big 12, earning nine of the 14 first-place votes and landing atop the 2025 Big 12 Baseball Preseason Poll.

The Cowboys also landed four players on the 2025 Big 12 Preseason All-Big 12 Team.
