Clemson baseball claimed a hard-fought victory over Oklahoma State in the opening game of the 2025 Shriners Children's College Showdown at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

This game marked Clemson’s debut in the tournament, and the Tigers made a strong impression with a comeback.

What started off as a pitchers' duel between Aidan Knaak and Gabe Davis ended up being a strong offensive game from both teams by the 9th inning.

OSU's Avery Ortiz and Donovan LaSalle both hit homers against Knaak in the 3rd and 4th inning, putting the Cowboys up 4-1 heading into the 5th inning.

However, Clemson crawled back, scoring two runs in the 4th inning, one in the 6th, and two more in the 7th inning to take the lead. Lucas Mahlstedt ended the game with a strikeout, getting outs against all six batters he faced in the last two innings. He also notched a save.

Aidan Knaak Is One Of The Top Pitchers In 2026 Draft Class

Knaak is the No. 31-ranked prospect in the 2026 MLB Draft Class, according to Baseball America. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound righty had a strong freshman season with a 3.76 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 38.1 innings.

His change-up is his best pitch, especially when his mid-90s fastball is cooking. Knaak was the No. 308-ranked draft prospect in 2023, and balled out at the 2024 MLB Draft Combine, but stayed committed to the Tigers. - Joe Harrington, FloSports

Could Gabe Davis Climb Into The First Round?

Gabe Davis is the No. 50 prospect in the FloBaseball Composite rankings and No. 32 at Baseball America. He is among the best pitchers in the Big 12. He's also one of the tallest prospects. At 6-foot-9, the right-hander touches 100mph with his fastball and has a big slider that could some day be his punch-out pitch at the next level.

Davis has had command issues, which led to his 4.17 ERA in 45.1 innings, but he has improved it to become the Opening Day starter. Davis pitched at the College Baseball Showdown in 2024 against Arkansas and went 5.2 innings, striking out five and walking two while allowing no runs in a 2-1 win for the Cowboys, which might have been the best win OSU has ever had at the Showdown - Joe Harrington, FloSports
