Jim Schlossnagle Era Begins For Texas At 2025 College Baseball Showdown
Jim Schlossnagle Era Begins For Texas At 2025 College Baseball Showdown
Texas has a new baseball coach – Jim Schlossnagle – and he’ll make his debut at the 2025 Shriners Children’s College Showdown in Arlington, Texas.

Texas Longhorns baseball boasts a history that spans more than 130 years, and while some may consider the University of Texas at Austin a football school, there’s no way to ignore the immense amount of success the baseball program has had.
The UT baseball team is among the winningest in history, and that includes six national championships.
The quest for title No. 7 will begin against Louisville at the 2025 Shriners Children’s College Showdown on Friday, and it will happen under the guidance of a new head coach – Jim Schlossnagle.

Schlossnagle has been one of the most successful coaches in the collegiate ranks for the last two decades, making his way across the vast Lone Star State at the helm of the TCU (2004-2021) and Texas A&M (2022-2024) baseball teams, before making the 90-mile move from College Station to Austin for the 2025 season.
The formal announcement of Schlossnagle’s hiring came in June 2024, shortly after Texas A&M came within a game of winning the 2024 NCAA Men’s College World Series.
Schlossnagle and the Aggies fell to Tennessee 2-1 in the best-of-three CWS final in Omaha, Nebraska. It was the conclusion of a landmark season that included a 53-15 record for Texas A&M.
Under Schlossnagle, the Aggies were 18-6 in the postseason and 6-4 in CWS games.
About Texas Baseball Coach Jim Schlossnagle
Over the last 10 years, Schlossnagle led his TCU/Texas A&M teams to Omaha six times, including trips to the Midwest Mecca for Texas A&M in 2022 and 2024. His 50 wins (50-22/.694) in the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship during the stretch is the best of any coach.
In all, Schlossnagle has been to the CWS seven times – five with TCU and two with Texas A&M. Prior to his tour of Texas, he spent two seasons as the head coach at UNLV.
In his 23 seasons as a collegiate head coach, his teams have advanced to the NCAA Tournament 20 times, and after his 18 years at TCU, he left Fort Worth with a program-best record of 734-346. His overall record as a head coach reads like a phone number. He’s 946-455.
Off the field, Schlossnagle has been president of the American Baseball Coaches Association, he has been recognized as the national coach of the year on two occasions – National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association in 2010 and Baseball America in 2016 – and he has been named conference coach of the year eight times.
Texas Baseball Before Jim Schlossnagle
Schlossnagle inherited a Texas team that ranks second all-time with more than 3,700 program victories and has been to the Men’s College World Series a record 38 times. The first came in 1949, and the most recent was 2022.
The Longhorns have hoisted the coveted national championship trophy six times (1949, 1950, 1975, 1983, 2002, 2005) and have finished as the runners-up six times.
The first year of baseball action at the University of Texas was 1895. Since then, the Longhorns also have amassed 80 regular-season conference titles and 16 conference tournament wins.
Last year’s Texas team finished 36-24 overall and 20-10 in the Big 12, finishing third in the regular-season standings. Two quick losses in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship saw the dream of a final conference title go away, while a win and two losses saw the season come to a close at the NCAA College Station Regional.
When Schlossnagle and the Longhorns take the field in Arlington, Texas, this week, a new head coach won’t be the only significant change to navigate, and that’s another prime place for his experience and expertise to come in.
The Longhorns also will be making a move to a new conference, and while it definitely is the most dominant in college baseball, it’s not completely unfamiliar.
Texas, and former Big 12 foe Oklahoma, have moved to the Southeastern Conference for the 2025 season.
While the SEC, winner of every Division I baseball national title since 2019, is going to be a tough place to play, that’s where Schlossnagle just came from. He helped Texas A&M to a 19-11 conference record and second place in the SEC-West last year.
Now, that team has earned the No. 1 spot in the 2025 D1Baseball Preseason Top 25 Rankings, and six SEC team overall have landed in the top 10.
Schlossnagle and his Longhorns weren’t left out, however. They went from not being ranked to finding the No. 19 spot on the preseason list.
tune in NOW for the @CoachSchloss introductory press conference 🤘
