NCAA Division I Women's College Basketball Rankings: Texas WBB Takes Out SC

History was made in women's college basketball this past week, with Texas WBB getting the job done against the powerhouse South Carolina women's basketball team at home on Feb. 9.

The victory marked the first time the Gamecocks have lost against a conference opponent since December 2021, when they were on a 57-straight regular-season SEC winning streak.

Other big games from the week also took over headlines as the best teams continued to face off against each other just in time before the tourney.

Tennessee WBB Upsets UConn

  • Although the Vols couldn't defeat the now No. 5 LSU Tigers, Tennessee women's basketball pulled off a shocker over the Huskies, 80-76, earlier in the week.
  • This was the first win over UConn women's basketball since 2007 when they defeated them in Hartford, and it was the first home win over a top-five ranked team since 2021 (South Carolina).
  • In the game, Tennessee had four players in double figures, including Zee Spearman, who scored 16 points and seven rebounds.

Biggest Week Of The Season?!

  • Two of the year's best games are this week with No. 1 UCLA women's basketball vs. USC women's basketball and No. 4 South Carolina vs. No. 7 UConn.
  • USC and UCLA are arguably the best rivalries in college sports, period, but especially in basketball. The California battle is always a must-see game, and it proves to be true even more than ever.
  • UConn has lost four straight games against South Carolina and knows it must defeat the Gamecocks to prove it is a true national championship contender.

Can Texas WBB Continue The Hot Streak?

  • The Longhorns may have defeated the defending national champions, but they can't let up now. They have a road test against No. 8 Kentucky women's basketball and then welcome No. 5 LSU into the Moody Center.
  • Those two teams will be the last-ranked conference opponents Texas will face in the season before the conference tournament.
