Shelby Houlihan Delivers All-Time Mile At BU Scarlet and White
Shelby Houlihan made her return to Boston University in statement fashion.
Shelby Houlihan made a statement in her return to Boston University at the BU Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invite.
In the mile race, Houlihan delivered a 4:20.30, effortlessly running away from the field in the latter stages of the race.

In the early moments of the race, Houlihan settled into a rhythm. She came through the opening 409m in a 1:05.43 before splitting 2:12.14 through four laps.
From there, she grabbed a metaphorical gear, delivering an ambitious last 800m in 2:08.16.
For Houlihan, the race marks a crucial point in her return to the sport. For one, it qualifies her to run the Mile at the U.S. Indoor Championships later this month. She is now qualified in the Mile and 3,000m.
Secondarily, it proves that she is still able to run that fast over shorter distances, a tact that still had question marks heading into 2025.
For now, Elle St. Pierre holds on to the American Record in the Indoor Mile. Her mark of 4:16.41 stands for another weekend. Houlihan is now the US No. 2 All-Time performer over the indoor mile, though St. Pierre has run faster on three occasions.
Behind Houlihan, Dorcus Ewoi (PUMA Elite) finished in second with her 4:23.69. Gracie Morris (PUMA Elite) came across the line in third with her 4:29.03. Ewoi has an outdoor best of 4:19.71 over the mile distance.
