The BU Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invite is set for Saturday, Feb. 8. The meet will be streamed LIVE on FloTrack and will feature several high-impact storylines that you need to follow.

Per usual, the fields will be loaded with talent, but there is a specific storyline that we're all eager to follow.

While many of the professionals will be racing at the 2025 Millrose Games, a lone wolf will be attempting to run an all-time mark in the mile at BU.

1. Shelby Houlihan Will Return To BU In The Mile

Shelby Houlihan, will make her return to BU and run a sanctioned mile race for the first time in four years, following her ban that came in 2021 as a result of a positive drug test. Last week, she won the 3K at the Razorback Invitational, posting an 8:31.56.

Will Houlihan break 4:20? Only one American woman has run faster than 4:20 over the indoor mile. Elle St. Pierre has done so three times and holds the American record of 4:16.41.

The American record may not be unfathomable for Houlihan.

She still holds the American record in the 1,500m of 3:54.99, which she clocked at the 2019 World Championships. That converts roughly to 4:13.79 for a mile. However, that was nearly six years ago, and time does play a factor, whether we like it or not.

Yet, Houlihan proved last week that she is still in tip-top shape, and she has a great chance to become the second American woman to run faster than 4:20 indoors.

2. The Men's 800m Is LOADED

The top heat of the 800m will feature a slew of professional 800m runners.

Leading the entries is Festus Lagat (Under Armour). Last summer, Lagat set a lifetime best over 800m by running 1:44.10. He finished seventh at the Kenyan Olympic Trials last summer in Nairobi as well.

The field will also feature a trio of Brooks Beasts. Brannon Kidder, John Rivera and Isaiah Harris are all entered with seed times in the 1:44's. They're all training partners with Brandon Miller, who will be making a 600m World Record Attempt at the Millrose Games.

But they're looking to win some glory of their own. Kidder and Harris both advanced to the semi-finals at the 2024 US Olympic Trials but they were unable to qualify for the finals. Rivera, a Puerto Rican man, won the PR National Championships.

3. Villanova Duo To Run The 3,000m

The 3,000m fields are loaded yet again, and a familiar duo is set to run the event at the Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invite.

Marco Langon and Liam Murphy are set to represent Villanova in their first 3,000m races of the season. They both came off of All-American races during the cross country seasons before racing the BU Season Opener in December. There, Langon ran a 13:14.11 5,000m and Murphy posted a 13:10.42.

Then, the two ran the mile at the UPenn 10 Elite Meet. They went 1-2, each running 3:54. Langon out-dipped Murphy at the line for the win.

So, what is on the line in the 3,000m?

Earlier this season, Ethan Strand set the NCAA 3k record with his 7:30.15 at the BU Season Opener. That probably isn't in the cards, but both Villanova Wildcats should break 7:40 with ease. That would slide them up into the NCAA top six in 2025.

But even if they run that fast, there is a chance they don't win the race. The field is littered with professional runners and Jonah Raess (On), owns the top seed at 7:35. He has a 13:07 5,000m personal best and holds the Swiss national records in the indoor and outdoor 3,000m races.
