Oklahoma State Rebounds From Loss, Tops Northern Colorado 8-0 At 2025 PVCC
No. 4 Oklahoma State rebounded from a shocking loss earlier in the day and defeated Northern Colorado 8-0 at the 2025 Puerto Vallarta College Challenge.

Sometimes, success in sports comes from having a short memory or doing things a little out of the ordinary.
For the No. 4 Oklahoma State softball team, both were necessary Friday night at the 2025 Puerto Vallarta College Challenge in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where the Cowgirls rebounded from a tough loss with an 8-0 victory over Northern Colorado in the nightcap.

Immediately after a shocking 6-1 loss to Louisiana Tech, the Bulldogs’ first win over a top-5 team since 2008, Oklahoma State was back at Nancy Almaraz Stadium to wrap up the day against UNC.
Small ball helped Oklahoma State (2-1) gain some momentum against the Bears (0-3), as back-to-back bunts to start the bottom of the first inning, followed by a double steal, allowed the Cowgirls to put a run on the board due to a UNC throwing error.
The strategy worked again in the third inning, as three consecutive bunt singles loaded the bases for Oklahoma State. A one-out base hit from sophomore Karli Godwin brought home two more Cowgirls and extended the lead to 3-0.
Smart hitting, heads-up baserunning and taking advantage of a few UNC miscues helped Oklahoma State end the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Cowgirls scored their fourth run in the fourth inning and added two in each of the next two innings to wrap things up early.
OSU had 14 hits in the contest, with only one being for extra bases. That was a double by junior Tallen Edwards in the fourth inning.
The top two hitters in the Oklahoma State lineup – graduate student Megan Delgadillo (four) and sophomore Tia Warsop (three) combined for seven hits.
In the circle, after allowing the Bears to load the bases in the opening inning, sophomore starter Katie Kutz settled in for OSU and shut down the Northern Colorado offense.
Kutz (1-0) went 4 1/3 shutout innings, surrendering three hits and three walks, while striking out four. Newly acquired ace Ruby Meylan, a transfer from Washington, finished the game without allowing another hit.
The losing pitcher for Northern Colorado was sophomore Anna Wilming (0-2), who pitched five innings, giving up 11 hits and six runs (three earned). She walked one and struck out three. Wilming also took the loss when UNC fell to Louisiana Tech on Thursday afternoon.
Offensively, three Bears each had one hit against Oklahoma State.
There are three more games on the schedule for the first session of the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge, and the action will take place throughout the day Saturday.
Northern Colorado will be back on the field first to face Louisiana Tech at 2 p.m. Eastern.
Florida State then will own the spotlight with a pair of games to close out the event. The Seminoles will meet LA Tech at 5 p.m. EST and take on Oklahoma State in a top-15 rematch at 8 p.m. EST.
The Puerto Vallarta College Challenge is taking place across two weekends – Feb. 6-9 and Feb. 13-16 – with all games being played at the famed Nancy Almaraz Stadium. All of the games will be broadcast live on FloSoftball.
The first session of the event includes Florida State, Louisiana Tech, Northern Colorado and Oklahoma State.
The second week of action will feature Boise State, BYU, Florida International, Illinois State, Indiana and North Dakota State.

About Northern Colorado Softball
The Bears were 27-26 in 2024, but their 9-5 effort in conference play was enough to secure the regular-season title in the six-team Big Sky Conference. They also went on to take the title at the Big Sky Tournament, marking the second consecutive Northern Colorado sweep.
UNC had a quick exit from the 2024 NCAA Division Softball Championship, however, losing to Oklahoma State and Michigan in the regional round of play.
The 2025 Northern Colorado roster features 16 players from the 2024 campaign, including eight starters and two starting pitchers. The team’s success over the last two years earned the Bears the No. 1 spot in the Big Sky’s recent 2025 Preseason Coaches’ Poll, where they garnered three of the six first-place votes.
Against Oklahoma State, the Bears are 0-8, and they’ve been shut out in their last five meetings – 2009 (twice), 2011 (twice) and regional play in 2024. The Bears have been outscored 32-0 over those five games.

About Oklahoma State Softball
Oklahoma State enters the new season as the front-runner in the new-look Big 12, which is without longtime powerhouses Oklahoma and Texas. They moved to the Southeastern Conference.
OSU, as it emerges from the OU/Texas shadows, landed at No. 4 on the recently released ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25.
The Big 12 coaches saw the promise in the Oklahoma State program, as well, and voted the Cowgirls as the No. 1 team in the 2025 Big 12 Softball Preseason Poll, with OSU securing nine of the 11 first-place votes.
Last year, Oklahoma State finished 49-12 overall and 21-6 in Big 12 play, which was good for third place behind Texas and Oklahoma, respectively. OSU’s season ended at the WCWS with consecutive losses to Florida and Stanford.
The last time the Cowgirls participated in the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge was 2023, when two players (Lexi Kilfoyl and Tallen Edwards) received all-tournament honors, and pitcher Kelly Maxwell won a share of the event’s MVP award.
