Big 12 Baseball Preview 2025: Cowboy Up For Nolan Schubart, OSU
Oklahoma State, Arizona and TCU poised for big seasons in the Big 12. All three play at Globe Life Field in February.
It’s a new era of Big 12 of baseball and Oklahoma State is poised to be the standard bearer as the league takes its next steps.
The Cowboys received nine first-place votes in the Big 12 Preseason Coaches Poll, marking the highest preseason ranking in program history, surpassing their previous best of second place, which they had achieved seven times.

Oklahoma State will be challenged early this season at the Shriners Children’s College Showdown when it opens against Clemson, Louisville and former Big 12 rival Texas.
Coming off a season highlighted by winning the 2024 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship and hosting the NCAA Stillwater Regional, Oklahoma State leads the poll, followed by Arizona in its inaugural Big 12 season.
The Wildcats, also at the Shriners Children's Baseball Showdown, received four first-place votes after advancing to the NCAA Tucson Regional last year. TCU, playing in the Amegy Bank Baseball Series in Week 2, claimed the third spot with the final first-place vote, followed by West Virginia and Texas Tech rounding out the top five.
OSU Baseball Highest Team In Baseball Rankings
Oklahoma State enters the year ranked No. 17 in the USA Today Coaches Poll and the D1 Baseball poll. They are joined by Arizona in the D1 Baseball poll (21) and TCU (23)
Nolan Schubart Is The Top Prospect In Big 12 Baseball
Slugger Nolan Schubart is not only the preseason Big 12 Player of the Year, he’s also the top prospect in the MLB Draft from the Big 12.
Schubart was named the 2025 Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year after a standout 2024 season where he led the league in home runs (23), RBIs (68), slugging percentage (.838) and on-base percentage (.513). The junior All-American set a Big 12 record with 18 total bases in a single game against Wichita State.
Kansas’ Dominic Voegele earned Preseason Pitcher of the Year honors following an impressive freshman campaign, posting a 7-2 record with a 3.32 ERA and 80 strikeouts, the most by a freshman in program history. Houston’s Cade Climie, the NJCAA World Series MVP, was named Preseason Newcomer of the Year after leading Blinn to a national title, while TCU’s Noah Franco, a two-way talent and top MLB prospect, was selected as the Preseason Freshman of the Year.
Schubart, Voegele, and TCU’s Ben Abeldt were unanimous selections to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team, highlighting a roster filled with talent from across the conference.

The Last Big 12 Team To Win The National Championship Wasn’t In The Big 12
Arizona is the last Big 12 team to win a national championship in baseball, but they obviously weren’t in the Big 12 at the time. The Wildcats won it all in 2012.
The last Big 12 member to win it all is no longer in the Big 12, that would be Texas who won the championship in 2005. There are currently no programs in the Big 12 who have won a national championship as members of the Big 12.

Where Is The 2025 College Baseball Showdown?
The Shriners Children’s College Showdown and two-weekend Amegy Bank College Baseball Series presented by Kubota will take place at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, and feature some of the top teams in the nation.
The 2025 season will mark the fifth consecutive year of college baseball at Globe Life Field – home of the world champion Texas Rangers – and the second straight year the action will span three weekends.
When Is The College Baseball Showdown?
The first weekend of the festivities, the Shriners Children’s College Showdown, will begin on Friday, Feb. 14 and will run through Feb. 16.
The following two weeks of action, the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series, will take place Feb. 21-23 and Feb. 28-March 2.
To keep the momentum going between the weekends, the series also will include four midweek games at Globe Life Field. Those contests will take place Feb. 18, Feb. 19, Feb. 26 and March 5.
