The BYU Cougars have appeared in the NCAA Softball Tournament 17 times since the teams founding in 2000, with their most recent berth in 2021.

Despite their dominance in almost every conference they've been under, the Cougars have struggled to make it to the World Series, being knocked out of the NCAA Tournament each year that they advanced.

The team's move to the Big 12 Conference in 2024 seemed to make the Cougars struggles worse, finishing sixth in the conference. BYU had previously finished among the top two teams of each conference they've competed under since 2005.

BYU Softball will get a chance to redeem itself early this season as it looks towards the 2025 Puerto Vallarta College Challenge.

The 2025 Puerto Vallarta College Challenge hits the fields on Feb. 6-15 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, with BYU Softball beginning play on Wednesday, Feb. 12.

The Cougars faced five games in the Paradis Classic to begin their 2024 season, missing the Puerto Vallarta Challenge. The outing to Hawaii gave the team everything they could have hoped for, starting 2024 off by winning all five games, including their 17-8 win against Missouri-Kansas City in the first game of the season.
