The Northern Colorado Softball team has had 11 Women's College World Series berths since the tournament's founding. However, all 11 of those appearances occurred consecutively in the first 11 years of the WCWS, leaving Northern Colorado Softball without a glimpse of the World Series for several decades.

Their last two years of play have seen some success though, with appearances in NCAA Regionals in 2023 and 2024. Both of those seasons ended in the first two games of the round, with back-to-back losses.

With hopes to secure another NCAA Regionals berth, and a fresh start to the season, the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge will be the first stop of many for Northern Colorado Softball.

The 2025 Puerto Vallarta College Challenge hits the fields on Feb. 6-15 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, with Northern Colorado Softball beginning play on Thursday, Feb. 6.

The Bears opted to play in the Candrea Classic in 2024, missing out on the Puerto Vallarta Challenge. The series proved to be a tough challenge for the Bears, winning a single game of the four which they played.
