Trevor Hoskin wasted little time introducing himself to college hockey fans, as the freshman forward scored in three of his first five games and had points in seven of his first eight – racking up 4-7-11 in the stretch.

Fast forward to today and Hoskin continues to produce, as the Belleville, Ont. native is coming off a six-point weekend and leads all NCAA freshmen with 29 points (9-20-9). He also owns an AHA-best 1.12 points per game and his 20 assists are tied for the league lead.

Hoskin, who is a fourth-round pick of the Calgary Flames (2024) was named the AHA Rookie of the Week on Monday. On top of being one of the nation’s top rookies, his 29 points are also tied for 12th in the country overall.

Hoskin had a goal and five assists last weekend as Niagara earned a pair of wins at RIT, vaulting the Purple Eagles to second in the AHA standings with 38 points. Niagara (14-10-3, 12-5-2) has played one fewer game than first-place Sacred Heart too, and the two teams will meet this weekend.

The Purple Eagles have won three straight and seven of their past nine, and were one of three AHA teams to receive votes (4) in this week’s USCHO poll – Sacred Heart (22) and Holy Cross (8) being the others. Niagara tied a season-high with seven goals Friday night and Jason Lammers’ club has scored five or more goals in five of their last six games – including 19 over their past three.

Hoskin, who is listed at 6-foot-1 and 175 pounds, is a right shot and has predominantly played on the right side of Niagara’s second line. He currently owns a seven-game point streak – which dates back to Jan. 4.

It’s Hoskin’s second seven-game streak of the season – Oct. 12-Nov. 1 being the other – and Hoskin has 14 points (4-10-14) over his current heater. He has three consecutive three-point efforts and also finished last week a plus-4.

Hoskin will look to keep his streak alive this weekend as the Purple Eagles aim to overtake Sacred Heart in the standings. Friday’s game is set for a 7 p.m. faceoff while Saturday will follow at 5 p.m. Both games can be streamed here on Flo.

Here are some of the other top storylines this week in Atlantic Hockey America on both the men's and women's side.

Men’s Hockey

  • Holy Cross forward Liam McLinskey, Sacred Heart defenseman Mikey Adamson and Army goaltender JJ Cataldo were named the AHA’s Forward, Defenseman and Goalie of the Week, respectively, on Monday. McLinskey had a five-point weekend and Adamson had a four-point game, while Cataldo led Army to a sweep at Robert Morris.
  • Speaking of Army, the Black Knights have won six straight and crept to fifth in the standings with 32 points. Niagara (38), Bentley (37) and Holy Cross (36) are all separated by one point with the Black Knights right behind.
  • Army scored another eight goals against Robert Morris and has now out-scored opponents 37-10 over the past six games. The Black Knights own a plus-10 (64-54) goal differential through their first 19 conference games.
  • Sacred Heart went toe-to-toe with No. 12 UConn Saturday night, but ultimately fell 1-0 in the Connecticut Ice Championship game. SHU defeated Yale on Friday, 8-2.
  • Holy Cross goaltender Thomas Gale made 33 saves on Friday and 28 on Saturday, earning his 12th and 13th wins of the season. Gale has allowed two goals or less in nine of his last 10 games and owns a .924 save percentage on the season.

Women’s Hockey

  • Penn State improved to a perfect 14-0-0 in AHA play with a sweep of Lindenwood last weekend. Junior forward Tessa Janecke had another four points (1-3-4) and became Penn State's all-time career point leader (men's and women's) with 141. Janecke has 42 points (14-28-42) through 28 games this season.
  • Penn State travels to Robert Morris this weekend. The Colonials are 2-10-2 in AHA play and have been out-scored 53-16. PSU has out-scored its opponents 52-14 through 14 conference games.
  • Mercyhurst sits alone in second in the AHA standings with 30 points as the Lakers are 10-4-0 in AHA play. Megan McKay and Julia Schalin were named the AHA Defenseman and Rookie of the Week as Mercyhurst swept Robert Morris.
  • Mercyhurst has won six straight conference games and allowed just six total goals in the stretch -- including back-to-back shutouts last weekend. Mercyhurst is also 8-1-1 overall since the new year.
  • RIT's power play has converted on 27 of its 95 chances this season,  and its 28.4% success rate leads AHA. Emma Pickering leads the conference with seven power-play goals.
