Hershey Bears forward Alex Limoges is now part of the Atlantic Division roster, while Laval Rocket forward Owen Beck and Syracuse Crunch defenseman Derrick Pouliot will play for the North Division. Lastly, Cameron Hebig of the Tucson Roadrunners will be added to the Pacific Division roster.
As is often the case when we’re talking about the best players in the AHL, many of these replacements are due to players that have been called up and will remain up with their NHL parent clubs and thus are unavailable.
Hershey’s Ethen Frank, who has been finding success in his first NHL stint with the Washington Capitals, is among the players being replaced.
So, too, is Columbus Blue Jackets top prospect Denton Mateychuk, who parlayed a strong season to date with the Cleveland Monsters into a longer-term call-up to the NHL.
Josh Doan, who started the season with the Utah Hockey Club is back with them after playing well for the Tucson Roardrunners for a large chunk of the first half the season.
Joshua Roy of the Laval Rocket recently sustained an injury and will not be available to participate.
There could yet be a few more replacements named as several AHL All-Stars remain on NHL duty for the time being.
Limoges has been a standout for the last two seasons in Hershey and was a big part of the Calder Cup run last spring. Limoges has 25 points through 30 games this season and has registered 191 points over 240 games in his AHL career.
Beck is among the key prospects in the Montreal Canadiens’ system. Drafted early in the second round in 2022, he is finding success in his first professional season. Beck has recorded 25 points in 38 games with Laval.
Pouliot is no stranger to the AHL All-Star Classic. This will be his third trip to the event over nine seasons in the AHL. Now a member of the Syracuse Crunch, Pouliot has 31 points in 38 games as his career point total continues to climb. In 378 career games in the AHL, Pouliot has 244 points.
Hebig is making his first AHL All-Star appearance as he is in the midst of his best pro season. The 28-year-old has 26 points in 32 games and is nearing his career-high. His next game played will be the 350th of his AHL career.
