The Fresno State Bulldogs have a little bit longer trip than some California teams to go from their home campus to the Big League Dreams Complex in Cathedral City, California, but it’s close enough to get them to the prestigious Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic every once in a while.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to make the 335-mile journey for the second consecutive year and will be looking to match the 4-0 record they posted in 2024. Their most recent visit before last year was in 2018, and that trip featured an 0-5 performance.

The latest edition of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic will take place Feb. 20-23.

The Bulldogs are coming off a 33-19 season that included a 13-9 performance and middle-of-the-pack finish in the Mountain West Conference. The team’s campaign ended with a 5-4 loss to Boise State in the opening round of the Mountain West Tournament.

Fresno State’s 2025 season will begin with five invitational/classic events.

First, the Stanford Invitational in Stanford, California (Feb. 7-9), and the Fresno State Kickoff Classic at home at Margie Wright Diamond (Feb. 14-17) will lead into the Mary Nutter.

After returning from Cathedral City, the Bulldogs will host two more events – Fresno State Invitational (Feb. 28-March 2) and the Bulldog Classic (March 7-9).

The 2025 Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic will feature 31 teams, headlined by Tennessee, Nebraska and Utah. Fresno State will play Minnesota, Seattle University, Bethune-Cookman and Washington. 

The Mary Nutter will take place from Feb. 20-23 at the unique Big League Dreams Complex, which has five fields available for the event.

In their last appearance at the Mary Nutter in 2024, the Bulldogs were 4-0, defeating Hawai’i, Mississippi State, Long Beach State and Cal Poly.

About Big League Dreams Cathedral City

The Big League Dreams Sports Parks are scattered throughout the United States and provide recreational and tournament players of all ages the chance to compete on world-class fields, often built as replicas of famous stadiums from the storied history of Major League Baseball.

Along with the nostalgic fields, the Big League Dreams venues include a restaurant and bar, batting cages, play area for children, stadium seating and space for other sports (hockey, soccer, sand volleyball), events and competitions. 

Big League Dreams Cathedral City was the first of the eight BLD properties to open, doing so in 1998. The park includes five fields. Among them, Boston’s Fenway Park, Chicago’s Wrigley Field and New York’s Yankee Stadium.

Who Was Mary Nutter?

Mary Nutter was an All-American softball player and a pioneer in the sport. 

She was a coach at Pittsburgh State and was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in 1988 and the National Fast Pitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1997.

Nutter died in 2012.
